Mystery Bullet

Hey! So I was out picking olives at my uncle’s place the other day and totally stepped on this bullet 🤣 , so now I'm wondering if anyone here can actually figure out where this thing came from..

It's massive, like 5 inches long, with a 3.5-inch casing and a 1.5-inch projectile.

I scrubbed it clean but couldn't find a single mark on it... the tip is all bent up too, probably because it fell out of some plane flying over the ranch. It looks like it's from an aircraft machine gun or something, but I have zero clue which war it's from—maybe WWII or something from the Vietnam era?

Nothing crazy, I'm just curious how a round like this ended up sitting under an olive tree on my uncle's property in rural Texas😁

I'm gonna drop it off at the local police station since I don't even know what to do with it.

Based on those dimensions you mentioned, we could be looking at a .50 BMG round.

According to Wikipedia, this round was first manufactured back around 1921 and they're still using it today... which means there's absolutely no way to pin down which specific war it's from... total mystery 😁

I'm keeping it just so I have a little slice of unknown history on my shelf 😁

There really ought to be some kind of marking on the base of the cartridge...
