Hey everyone.

Does anyone know of an actual, legitimate bank here in the States that offers small loans—maybe around $15$10—without requiring a co-signer or guarantor? I’m looking for options that work for people who are either unemployed or just working contract gigs.

I’ve stumbled upon some outfits like Fermentum out of Malta, but honestly, the whole thing smells like a total scam to me. If anyone knows the easiest way to snag a small loan without needing a guarantor—and more importantly, without getting ripped off—I’d really appreciate the help.

Capital One isn't some scam; they just slap you with massive fees if you don't have a co-signer (for instance, on a $1667 loan, you end up paying back $3000, because those $1333 act as the premium you pay in lieu of collateral). That said, even they won't approve huge amounts right out of the gate—you actually have to build a relationship with them first before they'll grant you that kind of credit limit.

Most major banks offer smaller loans to contract workers, provided you've been with your current employer for at least six months to a year, depending on their specific internal policies.
