So, I’ve finally decided it’s time to pick up a laptop for myself, but I’m hitting a few roadblocks and could really use some input from the group.
I just need something for everyday stuff—browsing the web, streaming movies, and getting some Office work done. My main concern is performance; I don't want a machine that starts lagging after I've loaded up a few songs, a handful of movies, and maybe 5,000 photos and videos.
I have this old school belief that Intel processors are the gold standard, but does that actually hold water in today's market?
Would an Intel i3 with about 4GB of RAM be sufficient for my needs,
or should I be looking at an i5 if I want this thing to run smoothly for at least another year or two?
If anyone can give me some straight advice, I'd appreciate it.
I just landed a job over in Chicago, so offers from back home in Washington, D.C. aren't really relevant to me right now. I just need a solid set of specs to use as a benchmark. I remember AMD processors being total jokes in the past, though I'm not sure if they've actually improved much lately.
Thanks in advance for the help.
