Need help with a GPU upgrade?

I’ve been staring at this aging rig of mine—it’s about five years old now, which feels like a lifetime in tech years—and I’ve finally reached the point where an upgrade isn't just a luxury, it's a necessity. Since my interests lean heavily toward gaming, I’m thinking a new GPU should be my first move. Right now, I'm running an Nvidia Geforce GTX 550 Ti, and frankly, it's seen better days. I’m looking for recommendations on what to grab next, ideally something that won't push my power supply past $333, though I'm also wondering if I need to overhaul other components first just to ensure a new card doesn't run into a massive bottleneck.

That’s a pretty solid setup you've got there. I guess you might want to think about stretching your budget just a bit more to grab a better GPU—maybe a GTX 950 for around $500. It'll probably last you longer.

Down the road, if you feel like it, you could always swap in an i5 processor (you can usually find them used for about $300) and toss in an SSD. That should keep things running smooth for a few more years, I suppose.

I appreciate the input, really. I’ll have to see how things shake out once the Christmas season rolls around and if my bank account can actually stomach picking up a GTX 950.
That said, does it actually make sense to go the used route, or am I just asking for trouble?

Only pull the trigger if the seller offers a warranty and lets you test the card out in person before you buy it. Honestly, I don't consider shipping anything anymore—it just doesn't feel like a safe bet. For me, it's strictly face-to-face deals only.

And you gotta remember, those new GPUs are basically impossible to find right now anyway. Plus, you're only looking at a $100$67 savings, and I guess the warranty is usually shorter too...
