Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out with a 1TB Verbatim external USB drive.

It took a bit of a tumble onto the floor—it actually seemed to work okay for a few days right after that.

But today, when I plugged it in, it started making this strange clicking sound—almost like something is skipping inside—and my computer won't recognize the drive at all anymore.

I guess my main question is, does anyone know if it’s actually possible to rescue the data from a drive like this?

Thanks!

You might want to start by pulling it right out of the case and plugging it directly into your PC—just a shot in the dark to see if you can get any kind of signal...

But honestly, if it’s acting up like this, there’s a good chance the read head is fried. If that's the case, you could try reaching out to someone like Micro Center (here’s a thread where people talk about them), though I wouldn't expect the quote to be cheap...
