The motherboard is:

GA-8I945GZME-RH

Does this thing support up to 4GB of RAM per individual slot, or is that the total capacity for the whole board? I'm looking at running 2x2GB sticks.

Also, would I see any real performance gain by going with a 1TB drive versus a 500GB HDD? It’s an older SATA II setup.

Thanks,

I think I managed to find the right subforum for this one.

Look, that link you posted is staring me right in the face: "2 DDR II DIMM memory slots (supports up to 4GB memory)"

The drives will behave the exact same way. With storage, capacity isn't the main issue—it's speed. Usually, you get what you pay for; the more expensive the drive, the faster and more reliable it is...

Though, honestly, that doesn't really matter much given the ancient motherboard you're working with...

Thanks for getting back to me.
The specs say "2 DDR II DIMM memory slots (supports up to 4GB memory)," and I’m trying to make sense of that. What’s the actual deal here? Does that mean I can put 4GB in each individual slot, or is 4GB the absolute limit for the entire system combined?

Both ways you're looking at 4GB, which is basically her ceiling.

Then there's the question of whether it's even worth sinking money into that ancient platform, but that's a whole other story. 😁

That’s just an old relic I’m currently refurbishing so I can use it as a dedicated guitar recording rig. Honestly, 4GB is the absolute bare minimum these days if you want anything to actually run.

Thanks!
