I could really use some advice here
I bought this laptop less than six months ago, and already a thin white line popped up at the top of the screen. I took it in for service, they "fixed" it, and now—less than twenty days later—the line is back. Only this time, it’s even thicker and more noticeable. They told me they replaced the ribbon cable, but clearly, that didn't cut it.
Is it possible this is just a factory defect? Honestly, I'm terrified to hand it over for repair again, fearing I'll be stuck with the exact same issue in another month. Does anyone have any ideas? I can handle a one-time glitch and a quick fix, but having the same problem twice in a single month feels like a lot. Can I ask them for a more thorough diagnostic—something where they actually ensure it won't fail again in a few days? Or should I just push to have the whole unit replaced under warranty?

On a side note, I also sent my mouse in for repair. They insisted everything was fine with it, but it only started working properly just now—after I spent months struggling with it, wondering if it was actually broken or just cheap junk. Somehow, it finally got sorted out...

Hopefully, I'm in the right subforum? 🙂 Thanks!

Looks like you're headed back to the repair shop again. If you try to DIY this one, you'll just void the warranty. Maybe they'll actually get it right this time, now that they've seen what happens when you try to fix it yourself.

I’ve always gotten the feeling you’re being way too soft when it comes to your laptop issues. Why? You paid good money for it, and if something isn't working right, service centers exist specifically to fix that—whether it's under warranty or not. 🤷

Look, it’s not that I’m being "restrained"—it’s more like I’m actively trying not to spit on my laptop right now. 😁

The service center was actually pretty professional about everything. They had the first repair done in about ten days, and they were super quick to accept this issue too—they even promised to swap out the screen under warranty.

But honestly, how many glitches does it take before they just give me a brand-new laptop? They mentioned that if this happens again, they’ll have to ship it off to their main hub in Texas for a full diagnostic and repair. And being without my computer for that long? It's such a massive headache. I'm torn... the service center is absolutely packed with Apple gear 🤔

It’s hard to say how many repairs or replacements we're actually talking about... You really need to dig into the specific warranty terms to see how long an Apple laptop has to sit in the service center before they just swap it out entirely.

Yeah, there's a ton of Apple stuff out there—mostly because those budget models have been flying off the shelves lately. When you sell that much volume, even a small failure rate looks like a massive problem. But honestly, I doubt this is a widespread disaster. Plus, all Apple products, even the cheaper ones, fall under that promotion where if they break during the first year, you get the repair handled and a refund for what you paid.

I hope you signed up for that promotion?

A lot of Apple, yeah—Apple has been the top seller over the last few months, and most of those were the budget models. So, when you have that kind of volume, it naturally looks like there are more failures. But honestly, I don't think it's a massive amount, especially since all Apple laptops—even the cheap ones—fall under that promotion where if they break in the first year, you get your laptop fixed *and* a refund for what you paid...

I hope you registered your laptop for that promo?

Thanks! I need to go hunt down my warranty terms somewhere.

She applied, though she did have to badger them a bit just to get a response—but they accepted everything. Now she's just waiting for those 30 days to pass to see if they actually wire over the 🙂
Personally, I'd much rather never have any issues at all. I'm actually typing this on an old laptop I bought back in 2006—never had a single problem with it, aside from blowing out some dust once. The only issue is it's getting a little sluggish for today's standards, even though I see similar specs selling for $667 even today 😁 so I guess I just miss that old-school build quality 🙂
