Hey everyone. So, what's the deal with this latest update? I can't even open like 60% of the threads on here—they just hit me with an error message every single time. For instance, I'm trying to get into the Physics Help section under the Science PDF category, and while I can see people are actively posting there, I haven't been able to load it since the update dropped...
What's going on?

I’m actually running into a bit of a different issue here: the page just won't load properly for me. I'll get a completely blank screen, with nothing showing up except maybe the very first line where it occasionally says "forum." Sometimes a quick refresh does the trick, and other times I have to hit the back button and try again, but honestly, there are days when I have to try several times or just kill the whole browser and restart it entirely...
But it happens so frequently that I've honestly just given up on it a few times because I simply couldn't deal with the frustration anymore....

Yeah, rustydrifter10, I’m running into that exact same headache too, I just didn't lay it out quite right in my last post...
I was honestly even thinking about just calling it quits on this one.. I mean, seriously, what on earth did they need to update? The previous mod worked perfectly fine, no complaints at all :S

I’m still running into that exact same issue on my end, and honestly, it feels like nothing is actually being done about it at all.
Is just posting it here enough to get some eyes on it, or should I go ahead and reach out to the moderator PM directly?

It’s probably just some annoying bug... I know from my experience playing World of Warcraft that every single time an update drops, some random glitch always manages to sneak its way in. Let's just cross our fingers and hope they get it sorted out soon.

@rustydrifter10/">@@rustydrifter10 - honestly, hitting up a moderator PM isn't going to get you anywhere. This kind of stuff isn't really in their hands; it’s all on the System Admins who manage the backend of this forum.
They actually rolled out an update recently, and if I remember correctly, they migrated the whole forum over to a more powerful server. It's performing a bit better than it used to, even if it still feels like it's glitching out occasionally. Still, it's an improvement over how things were.
The issue will probably be sorted out soon enough.

Which specific error are you getting? Could you please copy and paste it here so I can take a look and figure out what's happening?

Thanks! 🙂
I'm really hoping everything gets back to normal quickly. 😁

Well, you weren't asking me specifically, but I keep getting those 503 and/or 504 errors. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure about the exact wording, but I know it mentions something about the server failing to respond in time. I think that "timeout request" pops up while I'm busy clicking through things.
It doesn't happen the exact same way every time, though. 😁

Usually, I'll just end up staring at a completely blank white screen, or the page will just cut off right below that member list bar.

Anyone can report an error, rustydrifter10 🙂

Those 503/504 errors usually pop up when the server is getting slammed with too much traffic or when its security protocols kick in to protect the system. It’s often just a temporary hiccup, though; you should still be able to access most parts of the forum, even if an error occasionally pops up now and then, right?
Then there's what Matthew Johnson3 mentioned... "..I can't open 60% of the topics, it just throws an error.." I took that to mean he's completely unable to access certain sections of the forum. If that's the case, I'd really appreciate it if he could send me the specific error message he's seeing so I can get to work on fixing it.

🙈

To be totally honest, I'm not exactly a tech wizard. I can't even get my Windows machine to boot up properly anymore—I have absolutely no clue why, so I'll probably have to take my laptop to a repair shop and let someone else take a look. 🤦

But what I am experiencing is this happening almost every single time I try to open a thread, jump into a sub-forum, or even just try to exit one. 😕 And it’s not just once; it happens multiple times in a row.
It's been going on for quite a while now and, man, it is seriously starting to get on my nerves... 😢
Is it possible this isn't even an issue with the forum itself? Because it feels like it's only happening to me... 😕

My bad, I didn't explain myself very well... I definitely know that 503/504 happens during high traffic...
But check this out, here's a screenshot...

I haven't even touched this thread since the last update went live... and honestly, it's the same deal with most topics lately.
It's all done, but everything's just blank 😢

Have you tried clearing out your browser cache yet? Because for some reason, that thread is opening just fine on my end.

Grab CCleaner and clean up your machine.
Also, just download Malwarebytes, run an update, then do a full system scan.

Honestly, this isn't some issue for our forum to solve; it sounds like your PC has messed up cookies or settings from a virus or whatever else is going on with it.

It’s probably smart to have at least two different browsers to test stuff. Download Opera and see if that link actually works there.

rustydrifter10 said:I don't really get all the technical details. I can't even open Windows anymore, no clue why, probably need to take my laptop to a pro to look at it. 🤦

That goes for you too, I guess. 🙂

You should also download Malwarebytes, run an update, and then perform a full system scan.

What you're dealing with isn't actually an issue with this American forum; it sounds more like a glitch on your own PC, maybe some corrupted cookies or settings caused by a virus or something else acting up under the hood.

Also, it’s always a smart move to have at least two different browsers installed just to troubleshoot things. Try downloading Opera and see if that specific link works for you there.

That’s definitely the best way to start. 🙂

But do you really think I know how to do all that? 😁
I actually did install CCleaner, but when I went to run it, a warning popped up saying that continuing would permanently delete files from my computer 😕 so I got spooked and backed out.
I also installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and ran a full cleanup, but I’m still stuck—I can't even open basic Windows programs properly, and the forum keeps freezing up on me. 🤷 And the weirdest part is, no viruses were found at all...

What am I supposed to do next?

If nothing else, I guess I just have two new random icons cluttering up my desktop now. 😳 😛 🙄

EDIT: Well, things just went from bad to worse! 😠
Now my window won't even open all the way; I can see the background peeking through around the edges, and sometimes the bottom of the screen looks all stretched out diagonally... I try to resize it, but once I maximize it again, it’s back to being broken.

🙂
I mean, there's no reason to freak out over CCleaner since you didn't even run it. And even if you did, it wouldn't delete anything important. CCleaner just clears out cookies and other junk that builds up while you're browsing.

There could be a million different things going on with your setup, and honestly, it's impossible to tell without a deep dive.
It would probably be good if someone could actually take a look at your PC. 😉

Well, I went ahead and ran CCleaner! 🎉 I was feeling pretty brave... 😍
But everything is still exactly the same. 😕 Except, well, I had to log back into the forum. 😁

Who knows what actually happened to it.... 😢
I think I'm going to have to take it to a repair shop....

I've been trying to send a private message to someone (😁), but I keep getting this error message:

Ugh, what did I do wrong? 🙂

Up until now, the only time I ever had trouble sending messages was when I went a little overboard with all the emojis! 😁

If you wrote "CD/" in that PM, just delete it. You might think I'm some kind of wizard now, but I guess not. 😬

I swear on my life, I didn't write that part! 🙂
But then again, how on earth could I have received it if I did... 🤔

Anyway, it doesn't really matter because it seems to be working fine now, so we'll just have to wait and see... 👍

Thanks so much. 🙂

You got it written as DVD/CD. 😳
It works that way, though it looks kinda weird. 😁
