The Russian officer (just lost one eye) seeks help by radio but keeps connecting to the Chechen commandeer using a scanner to listen to Russian communications. Killing, hate, killing, blood, grime. The Russians pin hope on a tank. I have spoiled nothing so far, and even if you do not understand Russian your imagination should carry you along. Much effort went into this film. Ten stars.
I just finished watching this thing, and man, let me tell you—even if the acting isn't exactly Oscar-worthy, it’s such a massive breath of fresh air compared to the usual Hollywood garbage they pump out. When it comes to the actual combat and the chaos of war, it feels incredibly real, and the way they depict the violence is just raw and brutal. It’s based on an actual battle from 1995 in Grozny, though obviously, they probably cranked up the drama and political tension a bit for the screen.
Bottom line: I highly recommend it.
