No such interface supported" error – anyone else getting this?

Every time I attempt to launch any kind of application—whether we're talking about Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or even something outside of the standard Microsoft Office suite like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox—nothing happens at all, and instead, I'm met with this error message stating "No such interface supported." I find myself wondering what the proper course of action might be to resolve this. 🙂

anyway, it seems like you might have picked up some kind of virus or trojan—I'd suggest cleaning the PC first before trying any more fixes

I can't even manage to launch my antivirus software, though naturally, I am attempting to run an EXE file. I have been wondering if performing a clean reinstall of Windows would actually resolve these underlying issues.
So, I just attempted that alternative method from the second link you provided, and this error message popped up on my screen:
Cannot import C:/ blabla.reg: The specified file is not registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.

If you aren't worried about losing important files, honestly—doing a clean installation of Windows from scratch might actually be faster than all these trial-and-error attempts.

Try running a clean boot. Just follow the steps over at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135...

Open Notepad.

File name: blah_blah.reg
Select "All Files" under the Save as type menu.
Try encoding it as ANSI. If that doesn't work, try Unicode. See if you get the same error message.
