I haven't come across a thread covering this specific topic yet, so I figured I’d start one here.

Now, I am aware that orienteering exists as a running discipline, but I have also noticed mentions of mountain biking versions and something called "precision orienteering." I suppose I am a bit curious about what exactly "precision orienteering" entails? Furthermore, I wonder if there is some sort of orienteering sport where one actually walks instead of running?

I happened to stumble upon this link earlier:

So, yeah, it's really that precision orienteering aspect that I am trying to wrap my head around—what does that actually involve?

So, I’ve come across orienteering as a running thing, but then I started seeing stuff about mountain biking versions and something called "precision orienteering." What on earth is precision orienteering supposed to be? Also, is there actually an orienteering discipline where you aren't sprinting through the woods, but just walking instead?

I stumbled upon this site earlier:

Seriously though, what's the deal with this precision orienteering thing?

Precision orienteering—which is just Orienteering if you want to look it up online—is exactly what you're looking for. You aren't running at all; they don't even score you based on your time, it's strictly about whether or not you successfully locate the control points.

Thanks. I had been searching for "precision orientation," which explains why I couldn't find anything at all. 😁

According to Wikipedia:
"At international level, the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) defines rules and guidelines which govern four orienteering sports: foot orienteering, mountain bike orienteering, ski orienteering, and trail orienteering."

When I actually searched for Orienteering, I noticed a wheelchair icon on the logo, so I mistakenly assumed it was specifically designed for people with disabilities and skipped right over it.

I suppose I should probably look into this a bit more deeply. One wonders if there is some sort of formal training or a specific course required to participate, since it seems like there aren't many people involved in this particular discipline.
