Passport issues

I live in Canada, but I have an American passport that actually just melted on me... my friends are heading to the coast this weekend, and I'm wondering if Border Patrol is going to give me a hard time about it. I'm 17 years old.

Can a minor even cross the border alone? Without some kind of parental consent or whatever...

But mostly, I think passports stay valid for like a month or two after they expire—they let me through at the border just fine...

Wait, what do you mean it "melted"? What did you actually do to it? Did you leave it in your back pocket and then toss it in the washing machine next to a Duracell battery? I’ve gotta know!

Anyway, you could probably just use your state ID to cross the border from Canada into the US. Honestly, it might be better if you don't show them that melted passport as a valid document—they might actually try to fine you for it.
