What’s even the deal with these cases, especially the ones sitting at the $40 mark or less? I mean, does anyone actually have a decent recommendation for an AMD build if I'm trying to stay around $50?

The problem is the build quality. You've got terrible insulation, sloppy connections, and cheap materials. Then there's the sheet metal thickness—or lack thereof—and the fact that it lets way too much dust settle inside because there are holes everywhere.
You don't have anything intelligent to say in this category below. $100Honestly, I feel sick just seeing Linkworld and EVC mentioned.

ADM is a joke when it comes to their PC case selection compared to the competition. At this point, our only real move is to spec out builds with Cooler Master cases—they're the only ones actually worth the money.

And honestly, Linkworld is a whole different story—you can find just about anything on there.

I’ve actually got a connection over in Indianapolis, so I can probably just grab that locally... but does anyone have any other suggestions? Honestly, this Xigmatek looks pretty solid to me!

If you throw in another $23, this one from the link isn't half bad either. It’s not currently in stock at the local Best Buy in Indianapolis, but I'm pretty sure I could get my hands on it. 🙂

Avoid $100 because those things are absolute garbage. The airflow options are nonexistent, making thermal management a nightmare, and if you happen to have an older drive using a PATA connection that vibrates, you’re going to love the symphony of rattling noises every time you nudge the tower!

First you’re telling me the case is basically useless, and then you turn around and say I shouldn't even look at anything under $300? So what, am I supposed to just drop $333 on a chassis because everything else is garbage?

I wouldn't aim for 1000, but honestly, hitting that 400-500 range would be the sweet spot. Let's face it—your case is probably going to outlive every other single component in your rig—so it’s just common sense to shell out a little extra upfront to get something decent.

Honestly, I'm kind of stuck between the Xigmatek Asgard and the Thermaltake V4... anyone got some pros and cons they can throw my way?

I’d go with the Xigmatek Asgard over the Thermaltake V4, which is basically just a dust magnet. You should probably ask Rebbit about it. 😬
Personally, I would pick the NZXT Black Metal edition. It’s wider, so you actually have room for a tall CPU cooler, and since it’s larger than those other cases, you’re going to get much better airflow.

Believe it or not—and I’m not even kidding here—just one day after Joshua Garcia3 posted that link for the Thermaltake case, Best Buy pulled it from their site entirely. Just gone. Like it never even existed. 😬 So, that one's out of the running, which leaves me weighing the Xigmatek vs. NZXT. I’ve still got a few days before I actually pull the trigger on this purchase, so I think I'll spend some time digging around for some solid, high-quality reviews on the NZXT stuff—just to be sure before I make my final call. 🙂

Edit: Honestly, NZXT is kind of a letdown—they put the 3.5mm and USB ports right on the top, and that just doesn't work for my setup at all. 🙂

So, I picked up a Xigmatek Asgard today, and honestly? It’s an absolute steal. It feels solid—like, actually sturdy. The side panels don't cave in when you press them—which, let's be real, was my biggest fear after dealing with those flimsy cheap cases from $100. No weird creaks or rattling noises either, which is a huge plus in my book. Cable management is surprisingly decent too, and they even threw in three built-in handles plus four extra adhesive ones in the bag if you need them... I guess it's just thoughtful design. Getting the hard drives and optical drives in was a breeze since it's all tool-less with these simple plastic clips you just pop off. There’s even a 120mm fan already mounted at the bottom of the front panel, complete with a dust filter right in front of it... everything about this thing feels like it punches way above its weight class 🙂. If you're building a rig where you had to skimp on the case because the GPU or CPU ate up your whole budget, this is definitely the move 😉
