PC Upgrade Ideas?

I was looking for a used i5 7400 or 7500—but they’re nowhere to be found. All I see is the i5 6400, which feels like a total waste of time. So, what Ryzen should I grab that actually holds its own against an i5? I just want to be set for the next 2–3 years without my PC becoming a paperweight. Most of my time is spent surfing, watching YouTube, or movies—maybe 10% playing sports games at most. Since options are slim, I was eyeing this motherboard: ASRock AB350 gaming ITX / AC. Here is what I'm running right now:

Why didn't you just grab the G4560 (2c4t)? That’s easily your only bottleneck right now.

Basically, your best move would be to drop in a new i5. If that feels too pricey, just upgrade to a G4560 and sell your current chip. It’s a pretty painless way to fix your budget issues.

I picked up the CPU, motherboard, and RAM back in March of last year—before the G4560 was even a thing—but everything else is from earlier this year. Honestly, it feels pretty stupid to drop money on a new i5 when my current board still has six months of warranty left. And who knows? Once the new platform drops, will I even be able to find decent ITX boards? My whole plan was to grab a used i5 just in case things shift, so I could offload this CPU without taking a massive hit, but apparently, nobody’s actually selling them. Everyone keeps raving about the G4560, but does it actually matter for me? Right now, I’m just playing poker with YouTube running and ten different Mozilla tabs open to track stats, and the whole thing feels sluggish—sometimes it even stutters. That's why I want a beefier processor, or maybe I should just jump to Ryzen? I just need to know which one won't start acting up in two or three years.

Maybe just hang tight for a week or two. Once those new Coffee Lake chips drop tomorrow, people will probably start offloading their Skylake and Kaby Lake i5s and i7s. 😉

Honestly, I’d love to jump on the Coffee Lake bandwagon, but when am I actually going to see some decent ITX motherboards hit the shelves here? I can't wait forever... He wasn't really suggesting you go out and buy a Coffee Lake build, just that grabbing a used i5 or i7 might let you ride out the current setup for a few more years. I guess there's no real need to jump to a new platform yet.
