So, I got home, powered everything up, and the PC seems to be running fine—but there's absolutely no image. My monitor just keeps blinking like it’s not even connected to anything. I also noticed something weird with that power toggle on the back of the tower; if I flip it to 0, the whole thing shuts down immediately, even without touching the front power button. I guess something might be malfunctioning there. What could be going wrong? 😢

Maybe if you try switching it back now, everything might just start working properly again.

Nope. Still just getting a blinking monitor, even after plugging it directly into the motherboard. Same result...

I was wondering, what kind of cables are you using to hook it up to the TV? Are you using the same port on the graphics card?

Is the PC getting stuck again on that 0/1 switch?

Maybe try connecting it to a TV instead, and while you're at it, check the BIOS settings to see how the video is configured—you might even need to reset everything to default if things seem off. Also, it might be helpful to listen closely to see if you can hear any beep codes during the boot-up error.

Try connecting it to the TV and checking the BIOS settings for video; you might need to reset everything if it looks off. Also, check if the system audio is actually working when those boot errors pop up.

I'm using a VGA cable with an HDMI adapter for the monitor, and then just a standard HDMI cable for the TV.

It hasn't been getting stuck on the 1/0 loop anymore.

Should I try resetting the BIOS?
Okay, I'll look into the sound issue.
I read on a forum that this kind of thing happens when a GPU dies, so I tried launching a game—it runs fine, actually. Then I installed Speccy to see what was going on, and while everything else looks okay, it’s claiming my motherboard temperature is 127°C!?!?

The 1/0 error hasn't been bothering me much lately,

but I wonder if I should try resetting the BIOS?
Anyway, I suppose I'll take a look at the audio issues next.
I actually stumbled upon a thread on some forum about this exact kind of trouble, and they suggested the graphics card might have kicked the bucket. So, I tried launching a game—it actually seems to run totally fine—so I decided to install Speccy to see what the data would show. Everything looks okay on paper, except for one thing... it's claiming my motherboard temperature is 127°C!?!? That can't be right!

It’s definitely possible that the PCI slot on your motherboard has failed. You should have two available, so maybe try moving the card over to the other slot to see if that fixes things.

But if that were the case, the graphics wouldn't be working at all—and they are.

I mean, you really can't be certain, right? It might be that the motherboard has finally given up the ghost, or maybe it's the graphics card itself. I guess I had a similar headache once because the PCI slot was getting loose, so I'd just lose the signal every few minutes.

Kenneth Cruz67 said:Well, you can't be sure. It could just as easily be a dead motherboard or a failing GPU. I had something similar happen once when a PCIe slot started acting up—I kept losing the signal constantly.

I don't know, honestly. I hooked it up to my TV, ran Speccy, and it picked up everything (including a motherboard temp of 127 🤷). Then I fired up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, and the game actually runs fine.
Does anyone else use HWMonitor, or is there something else out there?
I guess I'll be able to check the temps in the BIOS-s once I reset the battery.

I swapped the battery back in, but still nothing. Regarding that beep sound 🤦 well, the guys at Dell used a single connector on the board, but the one I'm supposed to plug in... it isn't different. It’s basically the same thing you'd put on the JP2 header on a motherboard—you have four pins on the board, just positive and negative with two blanks, arranged so there's no clear polarity, but the part I actually need to plug in has a completely different layout. There is no way for me to connect this, so even if the case were shaking itself apart from all the beeping, I wouldn't hear a thing.
All temperatures look fine in the BIOS-s.

Hold on a second—has it even crossed your mind that the monitor itself might be dead? 😬

Try the simplest troubleshooting step first: plug your PC into a TV. If it works there but nothing shows up on the monitor...
Then you know where the problem lies. Try hooking that monitor up to a different computer just to be safe, swap out the cable if you can, and see what happens.

New je 🙂
So, look, my monitor only has a VGA port, while my graphics card has DVI-D, HDMI, and DP. I picked up one of those HDMI-to-VGA adapters so I could finally hook it up. I went over to my buddy's place to test it out, but we ended up making a bit of a mess of things. We tried connecting via VGA, then tested the HDMI, and my cable wouldn't work—but his worked perfectly, so we figured we were golden. We didn't even bother testing the HDMI through the adapter right then. He let me borrow his VGA cable that he knows works, but when I got home and tried it, 🙂

Go ahead and snap a photo of that HDMI to VGA adapter... honestly, there's a good chance it's a dud. I picked up one of those cheap ones from an online marketplace once, but a cable like that won't even work unless it actually has a converter chip tucked inside it. 😁

The thing is, modern graphics cards only output digital signals (HDMI, DP, DVI). You're better off just selling off those old monitors instead.

Look, there's a thick connector on one end, so you might be looking at a converter—just pray to God it actually works. Try testing it on a different PC instead.

I'll be back later and let you know how it goes.
Honestly, I'm a little nervous that if this thing is just some cheap junk, it might fry my GPU. It’s barely been a month since I bought it. 😱

It’s not going to fry your setup. Just to be clear, was your monitor working perfectly fine before you started messing around with that piece of junk?

Bottom line: either the monitor itself bit the dust, or the converter is what failed on you.

And does it show any kind of BIOS screen when you're booting up?
