Hey everyone, I’ve run into a bit of a nightmare here and if anyone can help me out, I’d be seriously grateful. Basically, I tried firing up my PC yesterday and it gets stuck right at the Windows logo—it just won't move past it. I try rebooting, and it’s the same story. I attempted to boot into Safe Mode, but it took about 20 minutes just to load, and even then, the whole system was crawling at a snail's pace. So, last night I figured I'd just wipe everything and reinstall Windows, but that was a total disaster too. The progress bar was moving at a literal crawl—like 1% every half hour. I eventually gave up and went to bed, only to wake up this morning to some random error message staring me in the face. Honestly, I haven't the slightest clue what's going on. Is it the HDD? The processor? Some nasty virus?

If you’d actually bothered to list your specs, maybe I could give you a decent answer, but this is useless... 🤷

And saying "some kind of error" isn't an actual description, it's just noise. 👍 Look, when a system starts crawling like this, it's usually a sign your HDD is on its last legs...

So, my computer is acting up again, and I need to figure out what's actually going on under the hood. My brother picked this thing up for himself—he’s away at college in another city right now—so I'm basically flying blind here. As far as I can tell, the specs are an Intel Core i3, 4GB of Corsair DDR4, some kind of 500GB WD HDD, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 750, and an old motherboard.

An error? What's it saying?

I can’t quite recall the exact details, but it was something along those lines—some corrupted files popped up right while that Windows file was expanding.

Hard drive's acting up. So, either I find someone who actually knows how to run some tests, or it’s heading straight to a repair shop...

Hirens boot CD
Boot from the CD first.
Pick the HDD regenerator tool, then select the option to scan and immediately repair any Bad Sector issues.

Once that’s finished, boot the PC up normally. Back up every single photo, song, movie, and document you have right away. Honestly, just start looking for a new HDD—this one is on its last legs.

Well, looks like that hard drive has officially kicked the bucket... Your best bet is to just yank it out and hook it up to another PC. Once you've got it running on a different machine, install Hard Disk Sentinel. As soon as that program boots up, you'll see exactly how much of a disaster we're dealing with. :P
