Period Dramas

I’ve pretty much binged every single screen adaptation of Jane Austen out there, plus a ton of other period dramas, and honestly? I am obsessed.
So, I'm looking for some fresh recommendations if anyone's got them. Hopefully, this hasn't been covered to death already, but if it has, feel free to point me in the right direction. 🙂

I honestly don't even know what else I could possibly suggest to you since it looks like you've already binged pretty much everything out there, but if you're looking for more, you've definitely already checked out the newer stuff like Downton Abbey and Lark Rise to Candlemere, and you've probably already tackled the classics like North & South too.
When it comes to movies, one of my absolute favorites has gotta be Gosford Park. You guys seriously need to go watch *Notting Hill* right now because honestly, it’s such an absolute classic and I don't think people realize just how much charm is packed into those ninety minutes. It’s one of those movies that just hits you in the feels with that perfect blend of awkward rom-com energy and genuine heart, and even though it's been out for a minute, it still feels totally fresh and effortless. Like, Hugh Grant is just peak charming in this, and Julia Roberts is obviously legendary, so seeing them play off each other in that sweet little London-inspired setting—which, let's be real, feels just as magical as a stroll through a cozy New England town—is basically perfection on screen. If you haven't seen it yet, stop what you're doing and go find it, because you're genuinely missing out on some top-tier cinematic comfort food.

My mom is a total sucker for this stuff, so I’ve been downloading a bunch of movies and miniseries for her lately, and I figured I'd drop them here in case you haven't stumbled upon any of these yet.

There was actually a thread on a TV forum back when Jane Eyre was airing, and people were going at it for about 50 pages regarding period dramas. If you feel like digging through the archives, you'll definitely find something you haven't watched yet. 😉

Watch the 2006 version of Jane Eyre if you haven't already. Just go for it. 🙏 🙏

You've probably seen Becoming Jane and anything else related to Austen... there's this really cute, funny mini-series where a modern woman somehow ends up inside Pride and Prejudice and messes up the whole plot. It's hilarious, but I can't for the life of me remember the title right now. 😵

Man, this thing about the girl from today's era... I think it’s Lost in Translation. Honestly, that was exactly what I had in mind, but a plot like that is either going to be absolutely brilliant or just a total disaster. 😁 Still, I'm gonna give it a shot. Yeah, true. And look, it's not exactly peak cinema compared to the others, but it's fun and lighthearted. The female lead is a bit annoying, but some parts are just hilarious—like how they messed with the plot. The way switching her into the Pride & Prejudice timeline while Liz ends up in the real world messes everything up; it's pure chaos, which makes it great. So yeah, worth a rewatch if you just want a laugh.

@Clint Yeah, that's the topic. I remember we were getting pretty heated about the Jane Eyre thread, but I didn't notice they changed the title in the meantime 👍
