Issue:

A while back, my regular period just stopped altogether. Since then, I’ve been spotting almost every single day—it’s never heavy like a normal cycle, but it hasn't stopped for months. It’s incredibly frustrating.

Has anyone else dealt with something similar?

If anyone has any insight into what might be causing this, please let me know.

(I already saw my OB-GYN, and she mentioned that my hormone levels and Pap smear results are both perfectly normal. She suggested I start birth control to regulate everything, but I am absolutely not interested in doing that right now.)

So you're basically ignoring everything your specialist tells you—just straight up tuning them out—and now you expect us to have all the answers?

I am looking for fellow sufferers.

Alright then—it's all of us against one, or one for all, I suppose!

If anyone else is dealing with this monthly cycle every single day—and you have zero interest in listening to what some doctor at the Mayo Clinic has to say, preferring instead to find people to commiserate with over our shared misfortune—then please, feel free to chime in here and suffer alongside the topic starter... 👍

That sounds like a solid plan.

My question was intended to be serious.
My doctor suggested a specific medication that I would prefer to avoid unless absolutely necessary. However, she didn't provide any reasoning behind the recommendation; it felt more like a quick fix to simply eliminate the symptoms rather than addressing the root cause.
I started this thread to see if anyone else has encountered this particular issue, and to hear what professionals have told you regarding potential causes and treatment options.

Look, I’m no OB-GYN, but if you're spotting basically every single day, that usually means you aren't ovulating—meaning your cycle is totally out of whack. So, how on earth is your doctor claiming all your hormones are perfectly fine?

(I mean, did you even get actual blood work done?)

And why exactly are you digging your heels in about hormone therapy? If the whole point is just to get a predictable cycle back on track—even if you aren't actually ovulating—it might be worth considering...

If your doctor hasn't given you a straight answer as to why they're pushing hormones on you, honestly... just go find a second opinion.

Like, what kind of class is this? That crowd would eat me alive. 🙂

Well, if one of them didn't snap at you first...

Look, OP—and I say this as someone who deals with similar gynecological issues all the time—we really need to just go to the doctor. We talk to them, we ask questions when things don't make sense, and we don't just make major medical decisions based on whether or not we "feel" like doing something. If you don't trust your doctor, then fine, find a new one... but please, don't try to play doctor and prescribe your own treatments or anything like that.

EDIT: And seriously, I’m saying this with nothing but good intentions here.

Honestly, I didn't quite grasp how she could claim all my hormone levels were normal when I had no idea what she was actually monitoring. She had me go in for blood work three separate times—she’d send me in for all sorts of tests, though I couldn't tell you exactly what they were for. She did confirm that I wasn't ovulating, though.

Her only suggestion regarding the pill was to help manage my symptoms, specifically that daily spotting. Beyond that, she couldn't provide a clear explanation for why I was having these issues in the first place.

And since I'm not looking to have kids right now—given that my chances of conceiving are essentially zero anyway—she told me we wouldn't be doing any further testing because, in her view, there was no reason to continue.

Rachel Cook83 said:Yeah, and since I’m definitely not looking to have kids right now—not that my chances of actually getting pregnant are anything above zero, honestly...—she basically told me we aren't going to keep digging because, in her opinion, there's just no point...

I'm assuming you don't want kids *right this second*, so we can talk about a window maybe two years out

but also, I'm guessing you aren't saying "never" to having them... 🤣 what I mean is, I'm betting you haven't made some final, lifelong vow to stay childless, right?

if that's the case, you need medical help. seriously. find yourself a different OB-GYN.

And just like that, Rachel Brooks63 and rustymoose54 are tackling yet another issue...

Seriously though—why didn't we just go to med school instead of dealing with this garbage? Please, someone explain that to me...

Not exactly a long list of options you have here.
1. You could hunt through these forums for someone else dealing with the exact same symptoms, though there’s zero guarantee the underlying causes are even related. You could try to commiserate, I suppose, but frankly, I don't see the point in wallowing together.
2. You could actually listen to your doctor, but apparently, that's just not on the agenda right now.
3. Or, you could seek out a second opinion, which is what I’d personally be doing.

Of course, you could also do none of the above—even though you've already started down that first path—and just sit there waiting to see if things magically fix themselves. To me, that's just as useless (and honestly, pretty reckless given it's your own health) as trying to find solidarity in shared misery.
Take this as some sincere, albeit blunt, advice: pick either option two or three from my list.

Back then, they basically told me—given my crappy health and all—that I should probably pick something "easier" 😂 and honestly, who has the energy to grind through six years of undergrad plus another two for a specialty? Just... no. 😂 😂

As for the kids, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, but that isn't what we are discussing here.

Everything unfolded this past week—the test results and the OBGYN's suggestion that I simply let things take their course and deal with the aftermath rather than addressing the root cause.
I was curious if anyone else has faced a similar dilemma... it's something that has been weighing on my mind for quite some time now.

Naturally, I have no intention of just accepting this; I won't settle for that anywhere.

That’s just how medicine works sometimes—it’s more about managing the symptoms than finding the root cause.

Rachel Cook83 said:Look, we can talk about kids later, but that’s totally beside the point right now...

You totally missed my point. I don't care one bit if you want kids right this second, or down the road, or even if you never want them at all.

The thing is—you're a woman in her reproductive years. If something is wonky with your organs or your hormones, you need to get that sorted out *now*—regardless of whether fertility is even on your radar today.

You said this:
Rachel Cook83 said:Oh yeah, and since I don't want kids yet (since my chances of getting pregnant right now are basically zero), she told me there was no point in looking into anything else because there's no reason to...

So what happened is your doctor is basically giving up on a thorough treatment plan—one that's clearly possible if you actually put in the work to investigate—just because you "don't want kids yet." That is just wrong.
