(Look, this isn't strictly a philosophy topic, so the moderator has every right to move it to whatever sub-forum they think fits better. I just decided to start it here because it hits on something that directly involves everyone hanging out in this thread.)

Since we keep seeing people bickering over whether a thread counts as "philosophical" or not—and clearly, everyone has a different definition of what that actually means—I’d love to just settle this once and for all. It would save us all from the endless back-and-forth on threads where we don't belong.

So, let's get on the same page: Are we talking about Philosophy as an academic discipline? If so, we should stick to the heavy hitters that have been debated for centuries—stuff like God, the universe, morality, truth, perception, transcendence, and so on. Or, are we treating Philosophy as a lifestyle? If that's the case, then topics like "How to achieve success" or "Managing intrusive thoughts" shouldn't be treated like they're "forbidden."

Personally, I'm leaning toward the second option, but I'll let the will of the people decide.

Let's finally focus on the actual subjects instead of fighting with each other... 🙂

My take: philosophy looks at everything and ties it all together. Any topic you can think of is fair game for philosophical inquiry. Honestly, how else do you explain why there’s always some new school of thought popping up?

Write whatever you want...

..because once this debate really heats up, we’re going to devour anyone foolish enough to serve themselves up on a silver platter for tasting😉

and maybe we'll actually learn something from the wreckage...

So don't leave us hanging without some fresh intel.. you're part of this too...😉>

Do you honestly believe you have anything worth bringing to the table?

I honestly think this forum is going to run dry pretty quickly if we restrict ourselves strictly to discussions centered on philosophy as an academic discipline. There’s already been enough said about those topics; some of the other threads have been dismissed with a certain condescension, though no one has actually proven they hold any less value.
Beyond that, there will always be those performers who live for the spotlight. They need their stage, and they’ll keep dancing as long as the lights stay bright and the audience keeps applauding. Then again, maybe deep down, they’d actually welcome the chance for the lights to dim, just so they could finally get some rest.

They don't dictate the philosophy itself, just the approach.

But let's be honest—for certain people, the subject matter dictates their entire approach, otherwise...👍

Look at this nerve,🙂
Listen, sorry to burst your bubble, but you really ought to have offered up a bit more inspiration than what you've put on the table here if you actually expected me to serve myself up on a silver platter for you.🙂

Oh yeah, I just love tackling...essential questions...🙂 🙂

Seriously though, since when did philosophy become just some "discipline"? How can someone who claims to be talking about philosophy—or even engaging in philosophical discourse—call it a discipline at all? It’s been, is, and will always be the study of the whole—the big picture. We’ve already hashed this out here a few times, haven't we? So why the constant need to demote it to some narrow academic subject—like legal philosophy, or an art form, or even the "philosophy" of wine, whiskey, or just plain nonsense? It’s total nonsense.
