Alright everyone, I’m planning on hosting a listening session at Unknown soon. Since I can't decide what to play, I've put together four options for you guys to vote on. Once we pick one, I'll get everything ready and you should all come hang out. I wish I knew how to set up a proper poll, but I'm still figuring that part out. Here are the ideas:
1. Post-punk—everything from Scritti Politti, Go4, and PiL through Subway Sect, Magazine, and Swell Maps, all the way to Liars, Interpol, and Death Disco. It's basically a celebration for all the intellectuals and anyone who wants to feel that way.
2. Americana vibes—Walkabouts, Songs: Ohia, Bonnie Prince Billy, Willard Grant Conspiracy, Neutral Milk Hotel, Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banishment, Calexico, Giant Sand, Sparklehorse, Wilco, Tom Waits, Eels, Iron & Wine, Sufjan Stevens... a session for cowboys and indie kids alike. Yee-haw!
3. Twee as hell—definitely my personal favorite. All Girl Summer Fun Band, The Flaming Lips, Beat Happening, Talulah Gosh, Architecture in Helsinki, The Beach Boys, Television Personalities, Magnetic Fields, The Field Mice, Heavenly, The Pastels, Tullycraft, The Vaselines, Of Montreal, and Belle & Sebastian. This one's for the people who love stuffed animals, sneakers, vocal harmonies, and sunshine. Basically, for the softies.
4. The most controversial option: the ultimate Battle of the Bands session! Mule, Fugazi, Go4, Husker Du, Coltrane, Pixies, No Means No versus Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Mass... this is for the true insiders, the forum regulars, and anyone with a sense of humor.
