I’ve been wondering: which hits harder? Is it when you completely blow an relationship and then have to live with the realization of how much of an idiot you were—leaving you stuck with the wreckage? Or is it when someone blindsides you out of nowhere, leaving you just as broken?

You’re totally off base here. There’s really no point in making a distinction!

Sure, you’ll see that later once you're finally clear of all this... but right now? Which abyss is deeper?

It’s pretty much the same thing. If you messed up, you’re beating yourself up over it; if you didn't, you're still beating yourself up because of what someone else did.

The absolute worst kind of pitfall is when you can't even tell who screwed you over.
If someone else is at fault, I guess eventually you just piece it all together and realize they weren't good for you anyway. But if you're the one in the wrong? Man, you just have to swallow your pride and try to be better.

It’s actually worse when I mess up someone's day... only to realize they've been screwing me over for years anyway.😠

...it's such surface-level thinking—the difference is already there

I'd much rather take my lumps from someone else

Oh, really? My logic was pretty simple: if I screw up, I should at least be smart enough not to make the same mistake twice.
If someone else screws me over, well, that can happen again—mostly because I haven't figured out how to spot the people capable of doing it.
Then there are those moments where you just get blindsided by pure chance and you're left standing there thinking, "Wait, what the hell just happened?" Like when a girl you're seeing suddenly falls head over heels for some other guy out of nowhere; one minute you're fine, and the next, you're just sitting alone on a beach in Malibu with a bouquet of wilted flowers, wondering how everything went so sideways.

Honestly, both options suck.
But there’s something even worse. It’s that constant, nagging gut feeling—that intuition telling you things are headed south. You keep grinding, pushing through, giving it your all, only to end up completely screwed. And when you finally hit rock bottom, you're left spiraling, wondering:
did they play me? Did they take advantage of my trust; or
did I just screw myself over by ignoring my own red flags when I should have listened?
One thing is for sure: when you're left holding the bag, you can't really point fingers at anyone else. 😛
