This is the second time in just a few months I’ve dealt with the same symptoms. My eyes are watering and getting crusty roughly every half hour. It’s honestly pretty embarrassing to be out in public like this. I'm assuming it might be conjunctivitis? I haven't seen a doctor yet—I've just been using Sulfasol drops. Is there any actual way to treat this?

I haven't actually made an appointment with a doctor yet since I've just been using some Sulfasol drops on my own, but I was wondering if there is any other way to treat this?

You really ought to go see an ophthalmologist, because at the end of the day, nobody knows for sure what’s going on until a professional looks at it, and they will likely want to run an eye swab to identify the specific underlying cause. You simply shouldn't play around when it comes to your vision, as it could very well be a more serious inflammation or perhaps even some kind of allergy, and while we can certainly chat about it here, we can only ever truly speculate without a medical diagnosis....

Go see an eye doctor and quit messing around—those are your eyes we're talking about.

I’ve been dealing with this constant stinging and redness in my eyes for what feels like twenty-five years now. It all started back in elementary school, and my pediatrician actually had the nerve to tell me it wasn't even a real issue, asking if it was actually bothering me or if I just wanted to look pretty (!??). I told her it literally feels like scratching, but she didn't care much.
Back when I tried to join the Army, they wouldn't let me in because we were supposed to pass a physical conducted by a sergeant—someone who hadn't even finished middle school!—and those guys didn't know the first thing about medical issues.☹️
Once I hit adulthood, I went to see every local specialist available—three different ones in total. The last guy just slid a rack of eye drops in front of me and asked which ones I hadn't tried yet.
When I pointed out a few, he basically told me to just grab them and come back for a follow-up later since everything would clear up anyway, saying I didn't even need to bother coming in for an appointment. Why would anyone want to deal with that kind of attitude?
I used to buy and use proculin drops because they provided some immediate relief, but I stopped using them a few years ago; now I just wait it out until it passes.
Is it an allergy or some weird type of conjunctivitis? Who knows.
I hope you have better luck with the specialists than I did.
By the way, my vision is still perfectly fine, thank God. ¤

I deal with the tearing and the crustiness constantly, and it isn't even conjunctivitis.
Maybe just go see a doctor if you're convinced it's an infection; I guess you shouldn't really be self-medicating like that.

If you actually think it's conjunctivitis, go see a doctor instead of playing pharmacist at home.

The lady at the drugstore gave me that when I told her my symptoms. What are you dealing with?

Who knows. Probably just an allergy, I guess.

Just got back from the eye doctor. I went in because I need new contacts, and while the tearing and other symptoms have finally died down, it turns out I’ve still got some inflammation 😢 Basically, the auto-refractor couldn't even get a reading on my left eye, so the technician had to do a manual check. She ended up sending me over to a specialist at a high-end clinic in downtown Chicago who uses more advanced gear. He ran me through about five different machines, twice each. When I mentioned I had an infection just a few days ago, he told the nurse to "color" my eyes to check for inflammation. She used some red drops, then he examined me again and confirmed both eyes are inflamed. He prescribed Virolex ointment and Torbrex drops, and told me to come back in a week.
