So... I went ahead and launched a poll yesterday evening: and then I come back today only to find the whole thing has been shut down. No explanation, no nothing... I actually tried reaching out to one of the moderators via private message to see what was up, but I haven't heard a single word back yet.
I’m honestly scratching my head here because I really can't figure out what I did wrong, as I don't see any issues with how the poll was set up at all.
I'd really appreciate it if whoever decided to close the thread could just let me know why...

Why is everyone just leaving me hanging here? I honestly can't figure out where I went wrong... and I have to say, it feels pretty disrespectful that the moderators and the site admins have been completely ghosting me for two whole days now. Is it really too much to ask for someone to spare just two minutes of their time to give me a response? Or maybe I'm just being dense and making some silly, minor mistake without even realizing it... please, if anyone could just shed some light on this for me...

When you’re setting up those polls, there’s actually a specific section that asks you to specify the duration—you just need to plug in the number of days you want it to run.

If you left that field blank, it might have just defaulted to twenty-four hours. Did you happen to enter a specific number of days when you were creating it?

I went ahead and set it to, I think, 0 ,basically making sure it stays open indefinitely without any kind of time limits or restrictions

Actually, if my understanding is correct, you can't really leave a poll open forever; setting it to zero probably just defaults it to a 24-hour window.🙂

I guess closing the thread should close the poll too. 😉

In computer science, zero usually just means there's no limit, like it doesn't have an end date or whatever.

Well, obviously! 🤷

To be honest, I was under the impression that the poll would wrap up before the actual thread did, so I can see why he’d be curious about why the discussion was shut down so suddenly. 😁

In computer science, setting a duration to zero usually means there isn't one—essentially, it's not limited by a specific timeframe.

You definitely know more about that stuff than I ever will! 😁
But just out of curiosity, is it actually possible to keep a poll running while the thread stays open, without having a set number of days pre-determined?

rustydrifter10 said:Can an poll stay open as long as the thread itself, without setting a specific number of days?

Yeah, maybe.
If you set it to 0, it usually means there’s no limit, so I guess the poll stays live as long as the thread isn't locked.

Anyway, this whole topic is pretty outdated for the 21st century. Like, most of us have heated bathrooms and hot water now. Plus, you can find basically any soap you want at a CVS or something... lavender, eucalyptus, whatever. So I guess it's no wonder someone got weirded out by the question and shut the thread down.😁

dustypuma5 said:Totally.
If they put down a zero, it almost certainly means there isn't a set expiration date on the poll—basically, as long as the thread stays unlocked, the voting stays open.

See, that’s the part I wasn't quite sure about! 🙂

Honestly, that topic is just totally out of touch with the 21st century; I mean, we all have heated bathrooms and hot running water these days. Plus, you can find endless varieties of scented soaps at any CVS or Walgreens... whether you want rose or carnation or whatever. So, it really shouldn't be a shock that someone got thrown for a loop by the question and decided to just shut the whole thread down.😁

😲

I didn't even bother checking out the actual thread. 🤣
But honestly? I probably would have closed it too.😁

Hmm, but then again, a few people actually did chime in saying they only shower once a week, even though we're living in modern times... and besides, there are folks who might not have reliable access to things, or maybe they just don't have the extra cash to throw away on daily necessities—not that I'm talking about myself, of course—so they aren't showering every single day, and then there are just the lazy types, people I definitely know, who really can't be bothered to get in the shower very often and end up doing it maybe once a week... regardless of how silly the topic might seem, people were still voting for all four options while the thread was actually open...
I really don't think the poll itself was an issue, since I didn't even include an option like 'once a month,' opting instead for 'once a week' as the lowest frequency, so I'm struggling to see a solid reason why the thread had to be shut down...

So, once more, I'd love for whoever decided to close the discussion to please provide a bit of an explanation as to why it happened...
thanks!

Honestly, those people who only manage to shower once in a blue moon because they can't afford the water bill should probably just cut off their internet access so they could actually afford to stay clean, though let’s be real—everyone else who showers just as frequently is basically just as filthy anyway. 😁
