I gave birth seven months ago, and since then, I’ve been dealing with these bouts of dizziness. They aren't constant—just one episode every couple of months—but I can't figure out what is causing them. I know I'm not pregnant! The first time it happened, my little one was only three months old, and the most recent episode was just a few days ago. I saw my doctor, and she ordered blood work to see if I might be anemic. My iron levels look fine, though my MPV is slightly elevated; she mentioned it relates to platelets but said it shouldn't be a concern. She even offered me a referral to a neurologist just so I could "go have a quick chat" about it. Now, I feel like I'm being dramatic or making things up by actually following through with a specialist visit.
I am curious to know if any of you have experienced similar dizzy spells? How often did they occur, and what did your doctors conclude regarding the cause?
I am still breastfeeding, and we are dealing with a massive amount of nighttime wakeups, so I realize exhaustion could be a major factor, yet I can't help but worry that there might be something else going on underneath it all. 🤷

First off, a neurologist isn't a psychiatrist at a mental health facility, and nobody is accusing you of anything.
Second, a standard CBC doesn't show "everything"—honestly, it often shows next to nothing.
Third, if those dizzy spells are actually messing with you, go see the neurologist and find out what's going on.
Fourth, you're only being "unserious" if you decide to ignore your own health problems.

Secondly, a standard blood panel doesn't reveal "everything"; in fact, it often reveals nothing at all regarding these specific issues.
Thirdly, if those dizzy spells are truly bothering you, please go see a neurologist to find out what is actually happening.
Fourthly, you aren't being proactive if you don't address these health concerns head-on.

1. I am perfectly aware that a neurologist is not a psychiatrist... My point was simply that her tone felt that way. Why wouldn't anyone else feel slighted by such a delivery?
2. It wasn't just a basic blood count; I had specific tests done for iron levels and anemia.
3. I am going to see a neurologist—I've already made the appointment—but I'm stuck waiting until my scheduled time arrives.
4. Believe me, I would resolve these issues in a heartbeat if I could.

Wait, so you've only had maybe two or three dizzy spells so far? (Seven months in, and just one every couple of months?)
Was it actually bad enough to make you collapse, or was it just that "whoosh" feeling that passes quickly?

Honestly, I get dizzy way more often than that and I don't lose my mind over it. You mentioned being exhausted—waking up constantly for nursing and all that... it’s not surprising if things spin a bit sometimes. Your blood pressure or blood sugar might just be dipping. Are you eating regularly?

With this heatwave we're having, feeling lightheaded isn't exactly shocking—especially if you're jumping up from a lying position or squatting and then standing too fast..

If this were happening to you every single day or week, sure, maybe... but like this?

2. And for the record, I wasn't just getting a standard CBC; I was specifically checking my iron levels and looking into anemia.
3. I’m already scheduled to see the neurologist, but obviously, I’m stuck waiting until my appointment date rolls around...
4. Honestly, I’d love to just get these issues sorted out once and for all...

I don't even get why this is bothering you so much.🤷
Even if they were a psychiatrist, there’s really no reason to feel bad about it.
And if they hadn't referred you elsewhere, then what would be the point?
If your blood work is fine, sending someone to a neurologist for these kinds of symptoms is standard procedure.
Besides, it could totally be coming from your spine—I used to deal with crazy dizziness because of my back issues.
Mine actually started up when I was breastfeeding because I was always nursing in such awkward positions that my spine just took the hit.
Throw in some low blood pressure on top of that...

Edit: okay, I just saw how often you're actually feeling dizzy. Personally, I wouldn't be losing sleep over it, especially if it's just that spinning sensation you get when you stand up too fast from sitting or lying down.

My pregnancy and delivery were incredibly easy, and I have never experienced dizziness in my entire life; since I didn't suffer from even a single bout of nausea during my pregnancy, perhaps it is only natural that I feel a bit frightened now. These episodes aren't so severe that I lose consciousness, yet the room spins violently, and it takes about a minute or two for the sensation to subside. But the vertigo is truly intense—it feels as though my vision is dancing and I simply cannot steady my eyes or focus my gaze on anything. 🙂 🙂
I make sure to eat regularly and quite substantially, despite having naturally low blood pressure. I truly hope this is just a result of exhaustion, though it troubles me deeply to hear that you experience this so frequently. Thank you all so much for your responses.

Low blood pressure could easily be the culprit here.
Try to stay on top of your hydration—it helps with the pressure and the breastfeeding too. 🙂
And maybe try to actually get some rest once in a while...

Low blood pressure definitely plays a role in that... I've been dealing with the exact same thing for years now.

-stress
-burnout
-lack of sleep
-a diet lacking proteins, minerals, and vitamins
-various neurological issues
-mental health struggles
-a million other things

All of this can trigger dizziness.

My baseline blood pressure usually sits around 90/60. I’m getting plenty of sleep—at least 8 hours a night, though it's more often 9 or 10—and my diet is pretty varied and balanced 😁. As for any neurological or psychological issues, I wouldn't say I have any 😁... but every doctor I've seen so far just keeps blaming everything on my low blood pressure

Low blood pressure is the culprit for me. I deal with dizziness (and headaches 🙂) and everything just going black for a second.

Hey, what’s the deal with your cervical spine?
Are you dealing with any actual headaches? Like, the kind that hit you so hard you feel like you're about to throw up?

I am quite unfamiliar with the complexities of cervical spine issues. What is your assessment of the condition? I have never personally experienced any complications there... However, I do suffer from frequent headaches. Once I have my coffee, everything seems to settle down perfectly. :-)
As for the nausea... No, I simply cannot allow myself to reach the point of vomiting...
Please, ladies, let us hope this is merely due to blood pressure fluctuations and sheer exhaustion... Thank you all so much.
