I feel like I’m constantly reading about screenwriters, directors, producers... and honestly? I still can’t wrap my head around what actually separates them all. Like, does anyone out there have a soul willing to break it down for me and explain who does what?

Kill me now, but hasn't there already been an EXACTLY identical thread about this? 🤔

Or maybe I just swapped over to a different forum or saw it on some news site. 😕

The screenwriter writes the script (Ava), the director brings that vision to life (Tarantino), and the producer is just the one holding all the cash (Bender)

So basically, you're saying the producer is like some corporate executive who doesn't actually touch the creative side of the movie, but instead just greenlights everything and manages the budget—aka, they control the money being poured into the production?

Not really, though! Honestly, producers often have a massive—sometimes even overwhelming—influence on both the script and the directing, especially when there's a major Hollywood studio backing them. You constantly hear stories during production about huge clashes between directors and producers. If you're just a young, unproven director trying to get your big break, there's a very high chance that what actually ends up on screen won't be your vision at all, but rather the producer's vision. Even if you've got a recognizable name, it doesn't mean you'll have total creative freedom... at the end of the day, the studios are focused on the bottom line and making sure they turn a profit.
