I’m really curious to hear from anyone else on this sub who might have actually tried this stuff out in the real world. Has anyone seen any actual results? Like, did you notice any real shifts in how you carry yourself or even just small positive tweaks in your daily behavior?

For those who are totally new to the concept, we’re talking about a method of basically "imprinting" specific messages directly into your subconscious through all sorts of triggers—whether that’s audio, visual cues, or reading certain texts, what some people call affirmations. Usually, you see folks with massive ambitions diving into this, whether they’re trying to climb the corporate ladder at a place like Goldman Sachs, leveling up their dating life, or hitting some intense fitness and weight loss goals. You can even make these things super personal by journaling them down, pairing them with clippings from magazines or images you find online, and then reciting them to yourself or even out loud in front of a mirror.

But honestly, it doesn't even have to be that formal or intense. It could just be as simple as watching some motivational YouTube clips or TED Talks first thing in the morning—maybe for about thirty minutes right after you wake up, since that's when your mind is supposedly most wide open and ready to soak everything up.

Anyway, I’d love to get the take of any professionals who study this kind of thing, but also just regular people who have given it a shot if there are any of you out there.

There aren't any actual experts on this topic—mostly because there isn't even a real topic here! 😁

All you really need to see is how these so-called "coders" are simultaneously grinding away on those astro-tarot lines for $2.25 every single minute 😵

And honestly? You can practically hear them predicting how you'll spend the rest of your life, just riding that endless rollercoaster of highs and lows 🤣

Check out the New Age spirituality PDF—most of the stuff there covers pretty much the same ground. 🙂

I feel like we might have had a bit of a misunderstanding here, or maybe the thread title is just a little clunky, you know? I wouldn't go so far as to say this whole topic falls under New Age spirituality or anything "out there"—it’s really just about mindset. It's kind of like when someone constantly tells themselves they're the best, the smartest, or the toughest until they actually start believing it, and then suddenly everyone around them starts seeing them that way too. Or, looking at it from the flip side, think about someone who's always subconsciously telling themselves they're unlucky, a failure, or just totally incompetent, and eventually, their whole life just ends up spiraling into that exact reality... does that make sense? I mean, I'm definitely no expert, but to me, this feels like straight-up human psychology rather than something involving "fortune tellers" or those types of people selling snake oil and smoke machines.

Ever heard of the Law of Attraction?

Murphy wrote a classic on this topic. The power of the subconscious mind.

It’s closely tied to the Law of Attraction, though not exactly the same thing.

People have been talking about the Law of Attraction forever, but it only recently became a massive commercialized trend.

Why don't you actually explain what you mean by Neuro-Linguistic Programming to the rest of us since you're bringing it up? Do you actually have some hands-on experience with it, or are you just throwing around buzzwords?

Read a few books on it, but I don't know... let's just say some of it actually makes sense in real-life scenarios. (And if you're asking if psychology is my thing—nah, not really)

So, after poking around this topic for a bit, I’m starting to second-guess whether this even falls under the umbrella of psychology, but I still can't quite bring myself to label it as just some "Alternative" nonsense, especially since I'm the kind of person who really leans on the scientific method and hard data... You know what I mean? Anyway, I actually stumbled upon that Law of Attraction documentary on YouTube recently, and there was this one line right at the start that just stuck with me—it said "universe does not exist without mind." When you take that idea, along with the whole movie, and try to mesh it with what quantum physics is suggesting these days, it actually starts to feel pretty logical... the only real headache is that you just can't put a ruler on it or measure it in a lab somewhere.🙂

Look, we can move this thread in a heartbeat if you truly believe it would get better feedback elsewhere. Personally, I don't think it deviates all that much from the principles in this PDF; various affirmations have been used—and continue to be used—in techniques originally developed by actual psychologists and psychiatrists... so, as far as that goes, it's not some totally foreign concept. But fine, if you change your mind, there's always the Alternative section... we could just move it over to Alternative, for instance... 🙂

I used to be super obsessed with the whole idea of "reprogramming my subconscious" through affirmations, but I could never actually get myself to stick with it...

In my opinion, things like hypnosis, Affirmations, visualization exercises, and relaxation techniques are essentially the same thing. Unless they’re wrapped up in some heavy market mysticism, they really just fall under the umbrella of psychology. Concepts like Transurfing or the Law of Attraction are just different Alternatives. NLP sits somewhere in the middle—it's built on psychological and psychotherapeutic models, but it lacks much empirical backing (though, to be fair, plenty of psychological models lack that too). It doesn't have objectively proven functionality that outperforms simpler methods of suggestion or persuasion; it's just that the need for commercialization and marketing drives people to inflate the complexity of these techniques and courses.

That’s not to knock psychotherapy, education, learning a motor skill, or even life experience—those are all forms of "subconscious programming." While any of this might seem miraculous to someone, I generally don't expect miracles from anything based on statistics, though I do expect some kind of relative effect from almost everything.

What I meant was—for me, NLP lacks that real psychological depth. I mean, sure, it makes sense in a way (you see the marketing everywhere, all those subliminal messages, etc.), much like modern psychology, but it's just not quite there. (Still, worth looking into.)

That’s basically what Buddhism teaches too—that the mind is the creator of itself in some infinite sense... but how do you prove that? (Or maybe just prove it to yourself?)

From what I can tell, are you mostly looking for some kind of motivation?

There are tons of ways to go about it—everything from the more controversial stuff (ancient traditions found in all sorts of cultures) or Alternative methods (which you said aren't really your thing since you prefer science), all the way down to Jungian approaches—symbols, engrams, that kind of thing.

Do you honestly believe that some stranger possesses a deeper insight into your subconscious than you do? That they somehow have a better grasp on how to "guide" your own self-manipulation... voluntarily? 🤣

And yet, this service is being offered to you... quite casually... under the guise of humanitarianism. It’s almost laughable, really. 😒

The reality is that all you actually need to do is look inward and truly discover who you are. 🧐

So, why the hesitation?

What is it you're actually afraid of?

Is it ignorance?

A lack of experience?

The great unknown?

Or perhaps you're just afraid of discovering yourself as a human being... while simultaneously refusing to acknowledge the humanity in others? 😵 .. I mean, they are people too, aren't they? 🙂 Or maybe someone skipped a few steps in their emotional development. 🙂

It is a well-documented human flaw to instinctively recoil from what we don't understand. But if the answers you seek—the very things your soul is hungry to comprehend—reside within your own being, then searching for them through an external medium is, at best, highly impractical.

But sure, go ahead. Just keep looking for those little signposts, step by tedious step. ☕

It's much like those Self-Help books where characters perform scripted roles, claiming how much their lives have changed because of a specific program.

The fundamental concept here is Self-Help... being independent, being your own guide. Though I suppose nobody truly understands the depth of what that implies.

I simply can't deal with this. 🕺

Remember Pavlov's classic experiment with dogs: https://sh.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Pavlov 😒

If you can't be bothered to read, just watch the video. Maybe it'll give you a little epiphany, haha.

Words have actual power. Read this carefully. Try to calm down, relax if you need to, take a deep breath, hold it for about three seconds, and then exhale through your mouth. You feeling okay? Good. Now, picture this:

Imagine you're standing in your kitchen holding a lemon you just pulled out of the fridge. To help your imagination along, click these three links in order:

http://www.vjencanja-info.com/images...ika--limun.jpg

https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...y8IaRF1tilArzQ

Feel how cold it is in your hand since it's been sitting in the fridge for a few hours
See its textured surface and that bright yellow rind, which fades into green at the tips. Now, give it a little
squeeze to feel its firmness and weight. Bring the lemon up to your nose and smell it. Nothing smells quite like a fresh lemon,
right? Slice it in half and sniff it. The scent is even stronger now, isn't it? Alright, now bite into that lemon and let the juice
flood your mouth. Nothing hits quite like that sharp, sour, zingy lemon flavor.

If you actually visualized what I wrote, your mouth should be watering right now.
That proves that simple words can trigger your salivary glands. If you didn't get there, check out this video:

Do images, imagination, and video content influence our senses and our physical bodies?

There are endless legends regarding the powers of yogis, martial artists, shamans, mystics, and other figures who exist beyond the realm of scientific materialism. Some are clearly just products of what an Englishman would call wishful thinking—seeing things that aren't actually there—but others have been demonstrated before large groups of people under controlled conditions. In India, very few people doubt that a certain Yogi Rao actually consumed 100 grams of sulfuric acid in front of a temple without showing any sign of pain, nausea, or anything else that would suggest such a lethal amount of acid had even touched him.
