Can someone walk me through the differences between these and explain how to actually fill them out?

Huh?

Can someone ask a simpler question?

If you're looking for insurance from some company, my advice is to ask for a promissory note instead. Just pick one up at Wells Fargo and fill it out—it tells you exactly what goes where—or have them do it and get the signatures notarized. A promissory note has to be notarized by a notary public.

Now, if someone is asking you for insurance, try to "slide" them a promissory note instead. How you fill it out... I guess I'll have to check since there are a few different versions. And those don't even need to be notarized. You can just grab them at Wells Fargo too.

I suspect it comes down to how collections work. From what I understand, a promissory note just hits the company's checking account, whereas a debenture allows you to actually seize assets if they don't pay up.

So, both promissory notes and checks hit your checking account, but here’s the kicker: a promissory note actually carries more weight. If the debtor doesn't have the cash in their account, a check just bounces back to you, but if you've got a notary-certified promissory note? You can go straight after their assets without even stepping foot in a courtroom. It's basically an instant way to collect.
