Pulling over for the cops without being signaled

I hope I’m in the right subforum here, my bad if I’m not.
So, this has happened twice now. Me and my friends are heading home late at night, passing through the same spot, when we spot a cop car tucked away in a side street. Suddenly, they’re on us with the lights flashing like we’re some high-level felons. My buddy was driving, so naturally, he pulled over the second he saw those cherries. They demanded his license, registration, a breathalyzer test, and wanted him to pop the trunk. Everything checked out, and they eventually let us go.
But it got me thinking. What would happen if we saw them in that same spot and just turned directly into that alleyway? Like, what if we pull up, pop the trunk ourselves, hand over the documents, and just smirk at them through the window saying, "Here you go, no need to chase us down like criminals again"? 😁 Would that be considered obstructing a police officer, or just insulting an officer on duty?

I mean, if they’re really going to push it that far, why stop there? Might as well have them strip everyone down to their underwear just to check for drugs while they're at it, right? Like, if you’re gonna pull someone over, just do the whole damn thing if you're so obsessed. If you stop me, then you stop me, but don't expect me to just sit here and take it if you won't follow through.

I used a sarcastic smiley on the forum for that one. Personally, I’d be perfectly polite with the police—very Vienna School.

Does anyone know if there's actually a specific clause in the law that forbids this kind of behavior? Because if it isn't explicitly banned, then technically anything goes.

They can't chase you if you aren't running.

Kid, maybe you should just pipe down and use your head for once.

Most accidents, drunk driving, public disturbances, fights, murders—all that stuff—happens exactly at the times and places where you guys get pulled over and questioned. And the ones doing it? Usually young, cocky guys just like you.
So, I don't really see anything wrong with how those officers are handling things.

Now, if they're pulling you out of a car in broad daylight just to check your ID without cause—well, they’d need a decent justification for that, especially if it becomes a pattern.

And honestly, with that aggressive, argumentative attitude toward the cops in those situations, you're probably just going to encourage them to be even stricter and follow every single procedure to the letter...

I’ve got a bad feeling that things are constantly spiraling out of control in that area—fights, chaos, even murders. Let's call it what it is: it’s basically a tiny town masquerading as a city. Even including all the surrounding outskirts, you're barely looking at 7,500 people. If this were happening in the Bronx or Harlem, maybe I’d understand why the police are acting the way they are. But here? It makes zero sense.

I was honestly mortified. I kept looking around, terrified that someone I actually knew would walk by and witness that entire scene. It makes you stop and wonder: what kind of person am I, or better yet, what kind of community am I even living in if this is how we're treated? When cops are circling the block just to hunt us down like this, it’s more than just harassment. It’s an absolute disgrace to every decent citizen in this country.

I mean, if they're really out to get you, they'd have to drive faster, and since it's the middle of the night, they'll definitely be using the sirens and lights.

Section 17 of the https://www.law.cornell.edu/ could be interpreted however the judge feels like that day, depending on how they look at it.

There probably isn't a law against it, but you’d be asking for trouble. They'll find some minor technicality you overlooked just to spite you, and then you'll be left wishing you hadn't been so casual with them.

I get the logic, but it's rarely a good idea to go looking for a fight with people in power.
