Hi everyone. I’m 18 years old, about 5'8", and weighing around 155 lbs. I know that’s a bit heavy for my height, but I’m feeling okay about it right now 😁
As for my diet, I usually get up early to head out to school, so I just stick to black coffee or unsweetened tea in the morning. I get home from classes around 2:00 PM and have lunch thenβ€”it’s usually something pretty simple like boiled food (today I just had some boiled potatoes), maybe an apple, or some soup. When I get really hungry, I tend to reach for some chickpeas (like those ones from the Diet Coke ads, though I’m not actually following that specific diet because I really want to avoid that whole yo-yo effect 😁). In the evenings, I go for a walk for about an hour or even ninety minutes, and I also do some workouts with a hula hoop, along with some crunches and squats. I’m actually thinking about picking up one of those fitness DVDs by Jillian Michaels soon. Anyway, I was wondering if you think my eating habits are on the right track and if I’m working out enough? Should I be adjusting my portions or changing anything else? My goal is to lose about 15 or 16 pounds.

There’s actually a dedicated thread just for you, so you might want to start scrolling through those archives.

Honestly, looking at your diet, things are a bit of a mess right now. You’re skipping breakfastβ€”which is arguably the most critical meal of the dayβ€”and you aren't eating nearly enough often enough. Ideally, you should be aiming for five or six smaller meals throughout the day. A good rule of thumb I've found helpful is to taper off your carb intake as the day goes on; by your last one or two meals, you really shouldn't be touching carbs at all. Beyond the timing, the quality of what you're eating needs work too; you really ought to be prioritizing more lean meats and fresh vegetables.

As for the workouts, it seems like you're making steady progress, even if it's a slow burn.

Why don't you try running?

I actually do run, though I only manage to get out there about three times a week...

Fine... just keep at it. πŸ˜‰ That’s honestly my go-to for toning up and dropping some extra weight! πŸ™‚
