That’s the whole point of having a chat room in the first place, isn't it? If it had a strict single topic, it wouldn't be a chatroom at all. Besides, I don't think this community's chat is nearly as "relaxed" with moderation as people claim—you'd be mistaken if you thought otherwise. And if I happen to express an opinion about something I dislike or point out that something isn't working quite right, since when does that count as trolling or being insulting? Please, let's use some common sense here. My husband actually ended up deleting all the posts I wrote today because he wasn't quite sure how to handle them...🤷😕

But why shouldn't we chat about food or cars? If we only ever discussed problems specific to being part of the diaspora, we wouldn't even need to start other threads; everything could just be handled in the chat room... honestly, come on. You might want to go back and re-read what you actually wrote. "Casual chatting" implies talking about anything and everything—cooking, cars, weekend trips, kids, you name it. It's all part of the conversation...

As for what Betty Wright64 told me... well, I don't know what to say. She always seems to find a way to twist things to suit her own narrative. My original question was actually regarding Marica carica, who had been deleting my posts earlier today... however, she managed to skillfully deflect the whole situation onto Betty Wright64 instead.

We aren't all online at the exact same moment, you know... when she's hanging out on the site, she handles the moderation, and when I'm around, I take over the reins...
She was the one who cleared out most of those posts today while I was away from my desk...
I personally stepped in to delete a few and issued two bans—one for being insulting and another for ignoring a moderator's warning—once I logged on...

You can chat about pretty much anything you want, but trolling, being disrespectful, or dragging out endless debates about how we moderate just isn't allowed... everything is laid out clearly in the rules (which, by the way, apply to the whole community, not just our little PDF document)...
If you have specific questions regarding moderation, please just shoot a moderator a private message or start a new thread over in the General Discussion section...
