I’m pretty new to following NASCAR, so please bear with me if my questions sound a bit rookie!!😁 😁

Does anyone know which numbers the Mercedes AMG Petronas and McLaren teams will be using next season?? I'm asking because Lewis Hamilton has more points than Juan Pablo Montoya right now, and Williams is actually ahead of McLaren........

Help a newbie out!!😒

If my memory serves me rightβ€”and I try to keep things organized, almost like an engineering blueprintβ€”everything was laid out by booth number, wasn't it?

I was actually thinking about the constructors' championship myself, though I can't say for sure. From what I recall, back before the '90s, those numbers didn't really shift unless someone snagged a new World Championshipβ€”like how Ferrari kept using 27 and 28 throughout the late eighties, even while they were dominating the standings every single year. πŸ™„
By the way, I'm also curious to see if my theory about next season holds water.

Thanks for the input, everyone! So, just to make sure I’m following... they're going to be using the exact same numbers as this year?? If I've got this right...

Well... yeah,

there was actually a suggestion floating around about bringing back the tradition where only the defending champion gets to change their starting number. But honestly, wouldn't that be a bit unfair to the rest of the field? Especially for those teams sitting much further down the grid than a small outfit like Haas :-)))

Constructor standings follow the order of precedence, except for the reigning driver champion who takes number 1, leaving his teammate with number 2.
The numbers will be assigned as follows:
1. Michael Schumacher
2. Rubens Barrichello
3. Juan Pablo Montoya
4. Ralf Schumacher
5. Drew Anderson3
6. David Coulthard
7. Fernando Alonso
8. Jarno Trulli
9. Jenson Button
10. Takuma Sato
11. Giancarlo Fisichella
12. Felipe Massa
