Filming for the sequel to Rob Zombie's Halloween remake has officially kicked off. We've got the same director and a pretty similar cast too—Scout Taylor-Compton is back as Laurie Strode, Malcolm McDowell is playing Dr. Loomis, Tyler Mane is the big Michael, Daeh Faerch is the little one, and so on...

teaser poster:

and some shots from the set:

Maybe you noticed the first slip-up, but Laurie isn't even wearing the same shirt she had in the first movie.

The film should be hitting theaters this August.

The first one was just awful—a pathetic little remake that doesn't even come close to touching John Carpenter's original. I’m not expecting anything special here, honestly... if anything, I'm bracing for an even bigger drop in quality. Even the original sequel was struggling with a ton of plot holes, so it feels like Rob Zombie is just leaning right into that tradition of nonsense.

I agree it doesn't even come close to the original, but it’s got its own vibe. I love slashers, so I'm honestly pretty curious to see what Rob is gonna do with the sequel... the original follow-up didn't really do it for me, maybe just that one scene where the nurse gets killed in the boiling water that stuck in my head...

For me, the whole thing rested on Donald Pleasence—he sold the idea so well that Michael is basically pure evil, which kind of carried the movie for me. I actually liked how the old sequel ended, with them just burning Michael, though it's pretty obvious Carpenter only wrote it to capitalize on the love for the first one (even if you can feel his influence all over the film)... plus, the whole slasher craze about psychopaths chasing innocent girls had just kicked off with the first part, so he figured he'd add another chapter. And hey, the remake has Malcolm McDowell in it too.

👍 For sure. Especially when he showed up at the start explaining things to the mom; he was totally in character. Honestly, maybe even better than Donald, R.I.P.

The ending is fine, I guess, but it felt a bit over the top how she just stared him down like that. 🤷

True, that's why the first one works better for me. Sure, he was stuck in the hospital for like twenty years, but if he somehow learned how to drive without ever actually sitting in a car, he might as well have picked up a suit of armor while he was at it. Plus, this whole story (and the old series, at least the first two) really benefits from them being connected... at least you can see the effort and the creativity put into it.

I mean, obviously the new ones will keep building the story, but man, that shirt is just painful to look at!!! 😠😠

If they did it on purpose just to get under people's skin like me, then fine. But if they really couldn't find the same one to use, then I don't know. 🙂

I just finished watching Zombie's remake of the first film and honestly, it didn't really hit the mark for me. It’s just missing that sense of tension you feel in the original; it simply isn't as "scary" in my eyes. But, I guess I'll check out this second one too just to see how it holds up...

Do you really think they're that meticulous about every little detail? First off, they treat the audience like they're clueless—it's a slasher movie, after all. Everyone's just gonna show up expecting Michael Myers to pop out and someone to scream, so those tiny details don't really matter much.🤷

Since we’re apparently required to dump every single shot from the Rob Zombie's Halloween II set, here’s another one pulled directly from Zombie's blog. That’s Daniel Roebuck playing Lou Martini - The owner of The Rabbit in Red. Apparently, he's attending the 20th Haddonfield Pumpkin Bash, which honestly sounds like a fantastic place to get disemboweled.

Recasting Young Michael was not something I wanted to do, but the scenes just didn't work anymore. Daeg isn't a little kid anymore; he’s a teenager with a deep voice now. Once you actually sit down and watch it, you'll get why I went this route. It wasn't an easy call and I definitely didn't make it lightly. Daeg killed it in Halloween, but stuff changes. I think the kid is incredibly talented and I wish him nothing but the best.

Honestly, I feel like this movie is just gonna end up going nowhere. They might as well just overhaul the entire cast and make a completely different film altogether!!

It's okay, I guess, I just really wanted this one to succeed...

I just don't get why they have to go back to that whole flashback thing with young Michael again. That already happened in the first movie (the part that basically messed him up), so why go there now? Just stick to the original sequel vibe so they can say they're being faithful, while the rest of us are sitting here expecting something else entirely...

It doesn't make sense to me either. Honestly, why can't they just continue the story where it left off and call it a day? 😕

Man, I'm just dying to see what they actually turn this into, though... I can't even imagine...

I just can't wrap my head around WHY his wife picked him out of all people... I mean, look at the guy, then look at his personality... it's chilling.😵 Honestly, it's a mystery to me why John Carpenter hasn't said anything—not even a little bit—like, "Hey man, you totally ruined my movie," or whatever... maybe the flick will be a dud, but I'm still rooting for it more than that recent Twilight mess.

Sheri Moon? Man, Rob is a legend to me... I used to listen to his stuff and his music is freaking awesome, plus his movies have this unique vibe, they aren't like everyone else's.🤷
I guess women just dig that type of thing.🙏

As for Carpenter, I haven't a clue, and honestly, I don't really follow what he's up to anyway... But yeah, I'm waiting for this movie even more than I was back in 2007 when it was coming out.😁

Listen, Rob legend, what are we talking about here? Is it because he completely ruined Halloween? Honestly, even Emir Kusturica would have made more sense of this story. I’m only going to check out this sequel because I absolutely love Michael Myers, but I already know 100% that the movie is going to be a disaster.

He didn't trash it. The original still exists and it's just as good now as it was before the remake even existed.

And calling him a legend is because he sticks to his guns and actually had the guts to do a remake after only making two films.

What made the remake such a disaster to you?

Personally, I'm obsessed with his film The Devil's Rejects, major respect for that one—and (before anyone rolls their eyes) the thing about all his movies is that he actually gets these twisted, broken characters. While that worked perfectly in that flick, it kind of missed the mark in the Halloween remake because people don't really care that little Mickey had a rough childhood; they just see him as pure evil, and that’s how he should stay.

But hey, I keep tabs on what old Johnny is up to, I really do, and I can't wait to see his next project because a master is a master... there won't be any drama even if he makes a dud, since it'll probably still be better than half the trash coming out lately. 🙏

Maybe some people are gonna jump in here and start acting like they know everything, but honestly, I don't really care... I just know I'm one of the few folks who actually liked Halloween.
For me, the movie was actually pretty solid. I didn't go into it looking at it as some kind of Carpenter remake. I treated it like its own thing, and if you look at it from that perspective, it’s not bad at all.☕
