R. I. P. Chris

A spokesperson for Chris Cornell, the guy who fronted Soundgarden and Audioslave, confirmed he passed away at age 52, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Per an Associated Press report, Brian Bumbery noted that Cornell died Wednesday night in Detroit.

They described his death as "sudden and unexpected." His wife and family are reeling. They’ve asked for privacy right now while they wait for the official cause of death to be determined.

I honestly can't believe it...

This feels incredibly sudden. The crew over with the Los Angeles Angels posted a tribute song and a "RIP" on Facebook, which sent me straight to Google, but I couldn't find anything substantial at first—now I see the news outlets are finally starting to pick it up. It’s hard to wrap my head around because, just yesterday, he was out there performing with Soundgarden.

Out of that whole early 90s Seattle scene, Alice in Chains were always my personal favorites, though Soundgarden was right there on their heels.

I still remember back in '94 during that huge Britpop craze; I was spinning Superunknown on repeat, honestly vibing with it way more than anything else making waves on this side of the Atlantic.

Ben Weinman from The Dillinger Escape Plan just posted a photo on Instagram from a recent show, and he included a dedication. Since they were out on tour together, I’m afraid it’s the real deal.

It honestly just breaks my heart to realize this awful news is actually real, and that we've lost what feels like the greatest rock vocalist of our generation... I mean, Soundgarden (and even some of his solo stuff) are basically on my daily rotation. There were definitely those darkest days where his music was the only thing that really helped me pull through. I guess I'll just have to live with the fact that I missed seeing him perform at Carnegie Hall... R. I. P. Chris

This is just devastating news. Only 52 years old. What an absolute legend of a musician and vocalist. I’ve always looked at Soundgarden as this progressive rock powerhouse tucked inside the grunge scene, man. What a damn incredible band. This is just gut-wrenching.
