More centralization, I guess

In one section of this Reddit, under Beautiful our Washington, D.C., there are about 45,000 posts and it even has its own dedicated subforum.
Miami alone has around 55,000 posts on just its single most popular thread, yet it doesn't have its own subforum despite people constantly asking for one. In fact, Miami has as many posts as the three largest US cities—Washington, D.C., Seattle, and Indianapolis—combined.

The admins refuse to grant a subforum, claiming there aren't enough active threads. Meanwhile, on the Washington, D.C. subforum, you see plenty of random topics like "where is this specific street located?" or "where are the best pancakes?" (that's three different threads right there!) that barely even hit 10 posts. Yet, if you try to start a similar casual thread about Miami, you end up getting penalized.

Anyway, you can all go ahead and check the numbers yourselves if you want.

So, what do you all think? Should the administrators finally smile and give us our own subforum, or is there some other solution that makes sense?🙂

Right now, a few of us have been moving several threads back to the front page 'Beautiful our Washington, D.C.' just to keep everything in one place, since users from other cities tend to scatter them all over the site. Our colleagues over in the Washington, D.C. subforum don't really deal with that kind of clutter. If we had things organized like that, wouldn't the discussions be even more active?

With fewer than 200,000 people in Miami and maybe around 800,000 in Washington, D.C., it stands to reason we need more space... 🤷

Besides, I don't particularly mind if you guys set up a separate subforum... 🤷

You’ve completely missed the mark on which subforum you're posting in here. Look, the Politics section doesn't have regional breakdowns, but if you're really dying to have one, you could always start a specific thread for politics regarding the West Coast—you know, topics covering places like Miami, Maui, or wherever else you feel like focusing—just like everyone else does.

It actually seems to me like your grievance is really aimed at the Beautiful our Washington, D.C. subforum rather than this one.

Yeah, we voiced our complaints over there, but it was pretty much a waste of time—which is why I’m actually here now. I mostly want to hear what you all think about this. To me, the core issue lies in that very first sentence of the original post: centralization. It seems to be baked into everything this society does.

Do you really think those reasons justify creating a whole new subforum?

By the way, Andrew Sanchez3, Miami has about 221,000 people.

On the politics side of things? No, I don't support splitting Americans up by region when national interests are on the line (trust me, I'm not some DC elitist). As for Beautiful our Washington, D.C., I don't really jump into the debates there, so I'm not even sure where I'd stand.

There's already a thread going about centralization regarding policy and budget allocation, so if you've got dirt on some fresh budgetary malfeasance, go ahead and start a new one.

Besides, who is your moderator? Why haven't you sent them a PM? They should be the one fighting for your autonomy in that corner of the site; this whole thing doesn't feel much like a negotiation, does it? It feels more like a full-blown rebellion.

Where exactly does it say these are negotiations, let alone an uprising? If you just look back at the first post, you'll see what it actually says.

And now you're actually trying to tell me that I'm the one lobbying for you? 😕Is that really where we're at here?

Look, let's just leave this up until tomorrow so even those politically active folks down in Miami can weigh in and see for themselves. 😁
And if there ends up being a poll, you've got my vote. Sound good?

Kevin Cox, try actually discussing and supporting requests without that constant whining tone or playing the "victim" card.

I don't really frequent that area, but lurking through the threads, I've noticed the same thing. I'm not trying to make a huge deal out of it, but you have my vote—it just seems perfectly logical to me.

Man, the injustice against Miami residents is unreal. 😲

As a band-aid, I suggest we just open a Miami subforum right now. 👍

But long-term? We need the thread creator to actually grow up. 😂

Maybe a better solution would be for people like you to act a bit more civilly—then maybe the whole country wouldn't be such a mess. 👍

If we were to strip away all the off-topic chatter from the Miami thread, we’d find there are maybe only 1,000 to 2,000 actual posts left... which means it should either be moved to the general off-topic section or simply deleted altogether.
By contrast, Washington, D.C., being the capital, enjoys its own dedicated subforum filled with high-quality threads that actually help people navigate the city, rather than just being a dumping ground for mindless fluff.
I find myself wondering, though... why does D.C. get its own subforum?
Perhaps it's because it serves as the nation's capital...🤔
On a different note, if I may venture into "politics"...🤣
If Miami is granted its own subforum, then it stands to reason that Seattle and Indianapolis should receive them as well; otherwise, I fail to see the logic behind the Miami one, unless it exists solely because the residents there tend to be more aggressive in their posting style, leaving the other cities with virtually no voice at all.🤷

Miami - 188,694
Seattle - 143,817
Indianapolis - 114,616
Washington, D.C., the capital - 779,145

🙄

Should it cover all four cities, or just Washington, D.C.?🤷

I see you, Raymond Sanchez7, starting up yet another NYC-Miami thread just so you can work through your issues.

Indianapolis - 114,616
Washington, D.C., the capital — 779,145

🙄

It’s either all four of them, or just Washington, D.C. alone.🤷

Here is the data from... 2001.🙄
Miami - 188,694
Washington, D.C., the capital—779,145

I'm looking for some data regarding... 2007. (Miami) I mean... 2008. (Washington, D.C.)

Miami - 221,456
Washington, D.C. — 786,200

By the way, you might want to take a look at how the population growth compares between those two cities. 👍

It seems like you don't quite get it—this is a forum where Miami has just as many posts as Washington, D.C., Seattle, and Indianapolis combined.

Greetings,

Regarding the implementation of these new PDF files, please understand that such decisions fall strictly under the jurisdiction of the administrators. Consequently, it would be most prudent for you to solicit their official perspective on the matter. To assist you, I have identified two of our more active administrators; I suggest you direct a message to them containing a direct link to your current thread:
Desiree
and
Bellwether

(Furthermore, you might find it equally effective to send a private message to the moderators overseeing the Beautiful our Washington, D.C. subforum)
I wish you the best of luck.👍
