Review: Logitech MX510

So, I finally picked up a new mouse today at General Motors for $127. My old one just gave up the ghost on my other computer—it was this ancient Logitech from back in '96 that finally bit the dust.

The other rig is currently running a Microsoft mouse 😁

Let's break it down: the mouse has a nice, solid weight to it, similar to a wireless one, and it's incredibly precise. It’s got some pretty sweet features too, like a dedicated button for a quick ALT+TAB or a tilt function for scrolling, which honestly feels way better than the standard wheel 🙂

The side buttons work great for Back and Forward in Opera or IE... or, you know, mapping them for gaming macros 🙂

It's an awesome mouse. Apparently, it comes with a 3-year warranty, though General Motors only gives you one, but whatever—Logitech is Logitech

PS. Driver installation went smoothly enough; Microsoft's drivers just stepped aside for these ones. However, Logitech tries to sneak in some random media player during the process. When I saw what had installed itself, I had to jump straight into Add/Remove Programs to kill it. It’s called MUSIC BOX or something like that—just another useless icon cluttering up the system tray... 😁

Anyway, just a heads-up: you can actually block that junk from installing if you know what you're doing 😉

So honestly, this price isn't really breaking the bank for the MX500.

Regarding that media thing (music player or whatever... who knows), you can just bundle it with those Logitech keyboard drivers.
And I swear, if I try installing it with my keyboard, I feel like I'm gonna end up downloading half the internet by mistake...
With the advanced setup, you just uncheck everything except the actual driver and you're good to go.

It's got better optics, a better sensor, and yeah, that's basically it. Plus, you can't even find the old MX500 anywhere in the States anymore—maybe if you dig around some random corner shop 😉

Basically, it's the successor. Honestly, it's good that it's a successor in terms of price too, since the MX 500 was priced right around there anyway.

Those extra buttons (😁) right by the scroll wheel are such a game changer; it feels just like tapping arrow keys, but honestly, it’s way smoother than using the scroll wheel alone 🙂

I picked up an MX 310 for my laptop, and honestly, it’s great. It's a bit smaller than the MX 510, but still feels solid for work. I've been sticking with Logitech for eight years now without a single issue. Why bother with anything else when they work this well and aren't breaking the bank?

I'm eyeing the MX 510 as my main driver. The only problem is my current setup uses a first-gen optical drive that works perfectly. These things just won't die, which means I don't even have an excuse to upgrade. Hmm, maybe the Linux rig needs an optical one 😁

I’m totally on the same page as slycrane94 here. I'd much rather shell out 300 or 400 bucks—or in my case, even 600! 😬 Where can I find a mouse that actually works? All that holds up, man, but if I had $60 in my hand right now, I definitely wouldn't be buying a mouse; I'd be grabbing a motherboard or something.
BTW, I'm currently rocking some random Genius optical mouse $41 and a keyboard for $8.75😁
