It's a psychological thriller from director Michael Winterbottom ("A Mighty Heart", "Happy Hour People", etc.) that feels like "American Psycho" but with a subtle noir vibe. It's already hit the circuit at festivals like Sundance, Berlin, and the Tribeca Film Festival, where audiences have absolutely loved it and the critics are raving. Based on the hit novel by Jim Thompson, the cast is stacked with big names like Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Ned Beatty, Elias Koteas, Bill Pullman, Simon Baker, Tom Bower, and Casey Affleck in the lead. In the US, it hits theaters with a limited release on June 18th, though it lands in the United Kingdom even earlier on June 8th.

PLOT
The Killer Inside Me tells the story of handsome, unassuming small town sheriff’s deputy Lou Ford (Casey Affleck). A quiet charmer of his idyllic West Texas town, Ford has a simple life and a pretty girl (Kate Hudson) to come home to. But when the job brings him face to face with a gorgeous prostitute (Jessica Alba) on the edge of town, Ford’s fragile world cracks – unbridling his own dark urges.

Nobody’s really giving you much to work with here—honestly, the endless complaining about the state of American cinema is way more entertaining than this. 😁

Anyway, thanks for the nudge regarding Winterbottom. I feel like I totally lost the thread of his career after "9 Songs," but man, those darker flicks like "Jude" and "Butterfly Kiss"—even "I Want You"—really stuck with me.

Any idea if this thing is actually hitting theaters here in the States?

Anyway, thanks for the reminder about Winterbottom. I kind of lost track of him after "9 Songs," but I still have those dark flicks like "Jude," "Butterfly Kiss," and even "I Want You" etched in my memory.

Any idea if this will actually hit theaters here?

And look... like I said in another thread... if it isn't Twilight or Avatar, people just don't care, haha...

Not sure if it'll play in our local theaters... with US distributors, you never know. They'll skip the big hits with famous actors just to screen some garbage nobody's ever heard of... so, yeah... we'll see.😁

Review: The Killer Inside Me

THE KILLER INSIDE ME is definitely going to split audiences right down the middle. You could tell at the Sundance gala—during the Q&A, some guy actually started lecturing director Michael Winterbottom and the Sundance committee for allowing this film to be seen. Honestly? That guy completely missed the mark on what is easily the best thing I've seen at the Sundance film festival so far.
Michael Winterbottom has put together a film that, I think it might be his masterpiece, based on a gritty classic from the king of pulp, Jim Thompson (his other work includes past adaptations like THE GRIFTERS and THE GETAWAY). It’s a brutal watch, especially with Affleck playing one of the scariest psychopaths I've ever seen, mainly because he makes the character so damn easy to like.
