Hey everyone!

I'm running into a headache here that I just can't seem to shake. So, I've got a Thompson SpeedTouch ADSL router set up, and I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

I’ve been using this ADSL connection for about a year now, and honestly, I never had a single issue with the connection or the hardware—until about a week ago when I upgraded to Windows 7. When I was still rocking Windows XP, everything was smooth sailing. Now, out of nowhere, the router just keeps rebooting itself. It basically shuts down, leaving nothing but the power light blinking, and then it cycles right back up like I just plugged it into the wall myself. Some guys on another forum suggested it might be a hardware failure rather than an issue with Windows 7—like maybe the power adapter finally kicked the bucket. I actually called AT&T to come out and check my line speeds and reset the router, but while they were here, the thing just rebooted again. To make matters worse, they sent a second tech today who swapped in a completely different router just to rule things out, but nope—the new one is doing the exact same thing.

The weirdest part is that it restarts regardless of what I'm doing; whether I'm browsing the web or playing a game, it just cuts out. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the actual internet traffic. I'm at my wit's end. I've already tried swapping out the cables and plugging it into a different outlet, but it's the same story every time. A buddy of mine uses the exact same version of Windows and says he hasn't had any trouble at all.

If anyone has any ideas or a fix that might help me out, please let me know.

Thanks!

Honestly, this clearly isn't a software issue or anything to do with Windows 7. You should probably check your line, test the hardware—maybe try plugging into a different router—or just give the tech support folks a call when it happens. See if they can run some diagnostics from their end to see what's up.

They checked my line and everything looks fine on their end. I swapped out the cable, but that didn't fix anything. I even tried plugging it into a different outlet to rule out power issues, but still nothing. They brought over a different router, yet the thing keeps rebooting on me. They’re supposed to bring over a Siemens router on Monday—if that one starts acting up too, I’m honestly at a total loss for what else to do. This whole mess started happening right after I installed 🤷

When you say it restarts, does every single light actually go out? Like, the DSL, WLAN, and LAN indicators—everything except the power light?
If it's just the internet connection indicator blinking off, then it's pretty obvious what's happening. I deal with disconnections about three times a day myself; it's probably just bad AT&T service or some crappy wiring in this building...

Everything just cuts out completely, except for the power light which stays on, and then the whole system just restarts itself from scratch, exactly like when you first hit the power button.

I am experiencing the exact same issue. I just haven't been paying much attention to it 😬.
The modem restarts itself, and then after about one or two minutes, you can get back online...
By the way, we are using the same modem and OS

I suspect the problem might stem from Windows🤔

I ran into that exact same issue back when I was using AT&T, but it eventually cleared up on its own. It actually had nothing to do with Windows either. I’m still using the same router today

Look, I don't care if the connection drops while I'm just browsing the web—it’s not a big deal to me then. But when I'm right in the middle of an online match and I get kicked three times in a row? That’s when you lose your cool and things start getting real messy.👎
