So, I’ve been running this low-grade fever—around 99°F—for a few days now. Over the last couple of weeks, there were a few random days where my temperature would spike just like this. Right now, I’m all stuffed up, and honestly, I can tell my immune system is basically in a coma. I’ve been loading up on every single vitamin under the sun trying to fight this off! What am I even supposed to do? There is zero chance of me actually lying down or getting any rest because I have a 10-month-old baby who is basically a tiny whirlwind running at full speed 24/7, and I don’t have any backup—no grandparents or babysitters to step in. What's the deal with this stupid fever? Why isn't it budging even though I've been slamming Vitamin C, Andol C, and even bought some aloe vera to help?

If this keeps happening and you’re running a fever this often, you really ought to go see a doctor.
It could be some kind of underlying infection. How have you been feeling lately regarding your tonsils, sinuses, or even your urinary tract?

Look, I haven't really run into any issues before, but I went in for blood work about three weeks ago and the results were kind of weird. My neutrophils were low, while my lymphocytes and basophils were both up... What am I looking at here?

Look, I’m no doctor, but it really feels like you’re dealing with some kind of inflammation here.
I went through something similar where I had a low-grade fever for almost two years straight. Honestly, they sent me from specialist to specialist all over the country, and none of them could figure out what was going wrong. It was exhausting. Then, by pure luck, I ran into an immunologist at the Mayo Clinic who told me my tonsils had to go, immediately. Well, I had the surgery, but the fever just came right back, and my sinuses started acting up too. Finally, last year, the fever just vanished on its own.
Are you noticing any other symptoms or issues?
If you don't want to post everything here, feel free to shoot me a private message instead.

A low-grade fever hovering around 98.6°F for several days straight is definitely worth looking into... You should head to the doctor and make sure you get blood work done! It could easily be a respiratory infection, but it can also be linked to a UTI... Just go get those labs checked out, and then you'll know for sure...

Good grief... since when does an immunologist handle emergency tonsillectomies?! That sounds totally wild to me.

I went through the exact same thing as Casey Rogers47!
I dealt with a low-grade fever hanging around for months—somewhere between 98.6 and 99.5 degrees. After running every single test under the sun, everything came back perfectly normal. Finally, they suggested I just get my tonsils out, claiming they could be the culprit behind the constant temperature spikes. But honestly? I skipped the surgery altogether since I wasn't dealing with any other issues like sinus infections or constant sore throats. Sure enough, after a while, the fever just vanished on its own.

Think of your tonsils as the first line of defense for your lungs—they’re basically the gatekeepers in your throat. My doctor actually confirmed via a biopsy that I was dealing with chronic inflammation. Honestly, the surgeon who performed my tonsillectomy at Mayo Clinic told me she’d never seen anything like it; she said she hasn't encountered that much pus in a patient her age before. She’s about 45 or 50, and she was genuinely baffled that other ENTs hadn't caught how bad it really was.
I've been dealing with constant sore throats since I was a little kid.
My immunologist pointed out that when you run a fever like that, it could be anything from tonsil issues or sinus infections to problems with your lungs, kidneys, or urinary tract.
If you've been running a fever like mine for a while now, please, go get those organs checked out.

I was dealing with a low-grade fever—around 99.5°F—for over a year straight. I went through every single test you can imagine... everything from sinus scans to getting a lumbar puncture because some lab results hinted at something like meningitis, but honestly? Everything kept coming back totally fine.
Eventually, I just stopped seeing the doctor and quit checking my temperature altogether. 😁If I actually bothered to grab the thermometer right now, it’d probably read about 99.0°F—just for the hell of it, really. It turns out there are just people whose baseline is naturally a bit higher than average, just like how some folks run naturally cold...

So yeah, don't sweat it too much 🙂

Anyone running a temperature like this for an extended period really ought to get those organs checked out.

Exactly. I know three different women who dealt with a temperature in the 99-degree range for months on end—one ended up with mono, another had walking pneumonia, and the third was fighting a urinary tract infection. It’s always better to be proactive...

Typically, you'll notice your temperature climbs to about 98.6°F or slightly higher right after ovulation, staying elevated until your period starts, so it might be worth checking if that's what's happening during the second half of your cycle... because if it stays around that same level even at the beginning of the cycle, there could possibly be some kind of inflammation going on somewhere.

And what’s your normal temperature when you're actually feeling fine?

I just clocked in at 101.3... literally just checked. I haven't even bothered calling my doctor yet... it just kind of happened on its own. If it happens again, I guess I'll just pop some Advil and deal with it...

In my case, they actually proved it with a pathology report showing chronic inflammation. The surgeon who performed my tonsillectomy over at Mayo Clinic told me she’d honestly never seen someone with quite as much pus buildup as I had.

I wonder, though... what did yours look like on the outside? Mine apparently don't look too bad, and you can't really squeeze anything out of them, but lately, I've been dealing with constant throat, ear, and sinus infections. My doctor suggested it might be time to just get them taken out.

I'm dealing with this fever right now too... it's honestly brutal. You just feel completely drained, irritable, and you can't stop nodding off. I finally went in for blood work, and they put me on antibiotics—just one a day, specifically targeted for sinus and bronchial issues. My doctors told me it’s definitely a lung infection, too. It's weird though, because even though I had my tonsils out a lifetime ago, I'm still getting hit with these exact same fevers.

Chris Wright4 said:So, what did they actually look like? Mine aren't supposedly "gross" or anything, and you can't really squeeze much out of them, but I've been dealing with constant throat, ear, and sinus infections lately. My doctor suggested just getting them pulled.

They’re looking a little redder than they probably should be. One of them even had this little white spot on it—my doctor called it a tiny abscess.
Now my sinuses are acting up again. I've got constant drainage running down the back of my throat, though luckily the fever finally broke.
Nothing seems to touch these sinus issues, and the doctors told me I'm not a candidate for surgery, so I guess that's just my life now.

I’ve been running a low-grade fever of about 98.6°F for two days now, but only in the afternoons. It’s perfectly normal in the morning, but then around 3:00 or 4:00 PM, I feel my temperature climbing up toward 98.8°F, only to drop back down to 98.0°F by evening...
I dealt with a viral infection last week and even had to take some antibiotics for a sinus infection, so I’m a bit confused as to why this fever is popping up, especially since it only hits during those afternoon hours... 😕
Anyone have any thoughts on what might be going on?

I’ve been sitting here with this low-grade fever, like 98.6 or maybe just slightly above, for days on end now, and it just won't budge. My doctor keeps insisting it doesn't even count as an actual fever, but honestly, I feel pretty lousy, so having my concerns brushed off like that is really starting to get under my skin.

During ovulation and through the end of your cycle, temperatures usually hover around 98.6 to 99.5 degrees. That might be what you're seeing.

Yeah, I actually thought about that too, but I’ve never really felt that "ovulation" temperature shift before. If I were to take my temperature, it would probably be around 99°F, but I wouldn't actually *feel* anything. Now, though, I can definitely feel it—it’s like this strange "heat" in my head... Honestly, I’m at a loss for what to make of it. I took some Tylenol today and Advil yesterday, but my temp just won't budge from 98.4 or 98.6, nothing at all until the evening when it finally drops to 97.8. Usually, my temperature runs higher in the evenings, but lately, it’s dropping instead. I just don't understand any of this anymore...
