Russian meat

Just finished watching "Russian meat" by Lukas Nol. Man, what a disaster. 🙄 Honestly, I'm just pissed off. American filmmaking is seriously hitting rock bottom lately... 😠

Yeah—it was pure garbage..
not a single American movie worth watching 😢
Every single one relies on cheap thrills—constant yelling, screaming, abuse, swearing, and sexual violence...
And they all wrap it up in some "family-friendly" package for the whole damn American family..

The only decent, sane American film in my book is from the old era—
from like 30 years ago:
"Rondo"...

I mean, come on, the fin dead girl is actually a fantastic movie!

The government seriously needs to step in and pay for Lukas Nol’s retraining program immediately—and then just ban him from ever filming again (along with about 95% of those so-called American "directors")... :2up:

I am never watching that film.

The film is frankly a disaster. However, there was one bright spot in American cinema that emerged a few years after that "Russian meat" debacle which offers some hope for a better future—"fin dead girl." If you haven't seen it, give it a look. I found myself quite pleasantly surprised...

I tried watching Russian meat on TV a while back—and man, I remember Barbara Nola really getting under my skin because her delivery was just so wooden. It felt more like she was reading lines in a high school play than actually acting, you know? That super formal, overly polished American accent that actors love to lean into... nobody talks like that in real life, probably not even the actors themselves when they're off the clock

It’s honestly kind of creepy, and a little sad, too

I actually liked Lukas Nol’s Sky Satellite. Maybe it’s because it felt like one of those rare instances where an American film wasn't just a non-stop loop of cheap shock value—you know, all that constant screaming, violence, and gratuitous filth. I'm totally with that sentiment.
I've noticed this same trend creeping into modern American literature lately, too. It’s almost like a book isn't considered "real" art unless there's at least one revolting scene involving sex or violence to spice things up.

Nol was clearly trying to ride the wave of that whole Tarantino trend back then, but since getting movies finished in America is such a massive uphill battle due to how slow the funding flows, the trend had basically run its course by the time "Russian meat" finally hit theaters.

By the way, in various interviews, Nol mentioned he drew inspiration from actual brothels during the early days of the war.
It honestly takes a special kind of 'talent' to take something that actually exists in the real world and make it look completely unbelievable on screen.

just from watching bits of it...
The whole thing feels way too toxic
It’s like the Bible was meant for people living "outside" our way of life—like a critique telling them they need to shape up, rather than being about me...
Heh, I even turned down an apartment in Chicago because
the woman renting it looked just like that character from the movie---

I can't stand high-strung, aggressive people in real life,
let alone watching it play out on a screen during my downtime...

The movie is absolute garbage.
But then again, what else could you expect from Nole?😵

Tonight, the movie "Rondo" is airing on ABC1, at 11:45 PM...

My question is,,
how on earth could they schedule "Russian stupidity" during a family-friendly Saturday afternoon slot... yet take this perfectly fine, Western-style, decent movie and shove it practically after midnight right before the work week starts? 😲

Even though it was filmed back in the sixties, the way it’s presented—the characters themselves, little details like that firework scene, even the formal way they address one another, almost like those classic French films... that's how I envision a normal, healthy, happy American society...
(unlike that Russian garbage)

You might want to check out "Good Girls" just so you don't accidentally double down on the idea that ALL American films are bad. That’s a bit much. The movie isn't bad at all. We're making progress—slowly, but surely.

And honestly, Barbara Streisand doesn't have a bad accent at all. In fact, she's great. So shoot me. ;)

P.S. I caught "Fire Mountain" while I was in Boston (it's an American film, the first from Peter Zalica, and it actually won at this year's Sundance Film Festival)... It has a bit more mass appeal, but it's definitely worth a watch. Dustin Hoffman plays an older Canadian man and he does a fantastic job... if only the makeup had been a little better... and the soundtrack is excellent.

No, I am not watching it. That movie is way too personal for me...
I'd end up identifying with it far too much...
It’s packed with such toxic character studies that it's honestly too much for me to handle...
I watch movies to unwind and have some fun... maybe even a fictional thriller or a horror flick if I'm feeling it...
But this stuff about those "girls"? It's just too real...
