So I've got this old motherboard that doesn't have any of those metal reinforcements around the PCI-E slots, and I just pulled the trigger on a heavy-duty, high-end card that's definitely a beast both in terms of weight and price 🙂... so now I'm wondering if it's actually a smart move to grab something like this?

Also, I can't for the life of me remember what the actual term for this thing is in English, I tried searching for some logical descriptions on Amazon but couldn't find anything that clicked...

Thanks

Just use two screws to bolt the GPU into the case. That’s basically all you need, provided you actually tighten them enough to secure the metal bracket into the chassis holes. A few years back, motherboards didn't even have metal reinforcement; honestly, plenty of them still don't. But heavy-duty graphics cards? They've always required that extra support.
