Skin irritation...

After some physical activity, or even just a long walk—especially if it's humid out and I'm sweating quite a bit—my fingers tend to swell. It isn't massive, but I can definitely feel and see the difference. My mom deals with swelling in her entire legs, though I haven't had that happen to me yet.
I've started to realize there might be a link between the heat, humidity, and sweating, because I almost never notice any swelling at all during the winter.😬

It is because when temperatures rise, the body attempts to cool itself by dilating the blood vessels near the skin to facilitate heat loss through conduction... however, when those vessels are dilated, more plasma can leak into the interstitial space...

So... you're saying it's not necessarily a pathology?
What about swelling during pregnancy? Is that just a hormonal thing?
And why specifically the fingers? Is that where it shows up most clearly?😬

That’s a bit of an oversimplification... since it's the extremities that get cold, not the core body temperature. There are easily a hundred different factors at play during pregnancy, so it isn't quite that simple
