Soderbergh's Solaris

Has anyone else had a chance to see this yet? If you haven't, you really should go watch it right now.
I absolutely loved the movie! Honestly, with all the media hype and noise surrounding this release, I was bracing myself for some loud, over-the-top sci-fi nonsense, but it turned out to be nothing like that at all.
It’s a bit of a slow burn, sure, but it really gets under your skin in the best way possible, and I found the way they explored themes like God (as a form of energy), mortality, and the nature of memory to be just so incredibly beautiful...
Do yourself a favor and check it out. 👍

I just feel like remakes can sometimes turn a perfectly good movie into a total disaster. Take something like The Lord of the Rings, for instance... those guys went ahead and messed with the ending, and it just felt off. I mean, don't get me wrong, the movie isn't necessarily terrible, but the original version is just on an entirely different level compared to the remake...

I only caught a few quick trailers on TV while I was at the theater.

Is it just me, or was that actually George Clooney acting?

No, seriously, it wasn't just some trick of the light or a hallucination... George is actually in the movie!

Velis Kika, screw Tarkovsky and Soderbergh—just give us George so we actually have something to celebrate! 🙂

hey Steven Ruiz, tell me how many people actually stayed in their seats while you were watching that? 🙂 from what I've heard, in the US, half the audience was walking out mid-movie, haha.
not that it stops me from seeing it though, Americans just don't know good cinema when they see it. hopefully...

Just because someone can't wipe that grin off their face doesn't mean they can't act. Like, honestly, he’d be perfect playing some total clown...

But for real though, what's the deal with Clooney? I mean, sure, maybe he isn't some legendary powerhouse, but I wouldn't say he's bad either...

Clooney belongs to that specific group of actors who basically rode their looks straight into stardom and nothing else.

What really gets under my skin is when they try to force him into these "serious" roles where he’s totally unconvincing. It feels like they just use him to play some generic "tough guy" archetype just to maintain the image that put him on that fake pedestal in the first place.

The absolute peak of his "anti-acting" talent was in Batman 4, though I guess you could blame the director for that one more than him.

I think I read somewhere that he used to do comedy or something back in the day. It doesn't even matter... but honestly, those are the only roles that actually fit him. You know, light comedies or those cheesy romantic trash movies.

Look... I might actually like Solaris, but I am 99% certain that Clooney is going to suck in this role, and then people will praise him like he's the next Brando.

But why skip over him now? What on earth is wrong with George, seriously??? He’s such a fantastic actor, and honestly, he’s just absolutely incredible at what he does. Leave him alone, he's a total class act!😁

By the way, over in the States, people were definitely storming out of theaters because the studio marketed this thing as some high-octane, guns-blazing sci-fi action flick, so when they realized what they actually signed up for, they were pretty disappointed...

look, crimsonjackal8, I didn't see the movie but I've read the books—and even though my memory is a bit fuzzy, I know enough. Soderbergh pretty much went rogue with the source material. Pretty sure they threw in some flashy scenes to spice things up, but the core of the movie is still all that heavy stuff... psychology, life, love, death, God, whatever... maybe it's just me... hey Steven Ruiz, does this description actually fit the vibe of the movie?

It’s honestly baffling that with such a massive wealth of psychedelic sci-fi literature out there, Hollywood decides to dump all their money into Philip K. Dick instead...
But, if they ever decide to do a screen adaptation of Silverberg's "Dying Inside," you can bet I'll be sitting front and center for that one.

crimsonjackal8....I really can't bring myself to agree that Jackson ruined LOTR.
When you consider how many Hollywood adaptations have absolutely butchered their source material... Jackson’s work is actually one of the least offensive examples out there...

But then again...
We’ll just have to wait and see how things turn out with Fincher’s "Meeting with Ram" or Alex Proyas's "I, Robot."

Well, suit yourself. For me, Philip K. Dick is the absolute favorite—maybe even a bit too much of an obsession. Especially "Fiasco," though pretty much everything I've managed to read from him hits the mark. "Solaris" is just top-tier.

They say you can't argue with taste, but then what's the point of talking at all? 😕
