Stage vs. Screen: Does it even matter?

I’ve always felt like some stories just lose their soul when they're moved from a movie to a theater production. There's something about the intimacy of the stage that can either make a drama feel much more raw or just feel a bit forced. Do you guys think a great script can actually survive the transition?
