Alright, here's the deal...
First off, sorry for dropping such a heavy topic on everyone, but I’ve got some questions and would really appreciate any insight you guys can offer.
So, I'm 28 and I've basically struggled with my weight my entire life. I'm 6'2" and currently sitting at 242 lbs, though my peak was around 275 lbs about a year ago.
Last summer, I had two scary episodes where I felt terrible—cold sweats, almost blacking out—usually right around 1 PM. I hadn't eaten anything because I'm not a breakfast person, and I'd just lit my first cigarette of the day. Once I sipped on some Gatorade, I started feeling better.
Then this past December, after dealing with insane stress at work, I felt this sudden pressure in my head and my heart started racing. My brother rushed me straight to the ER, where they ran an EKG and blood work, and told me everything looked fine.
That was my wake-up call. I quit smoking cold turkey and haven't touched a cigarette since—honestly, I don't even miss them. I work in IT, so I'm pretty sedentary, but lately, I've started going for daily walks.
I haven't ever been seriously ill, aside from some frequent headaches, but those cleared up once I managed my stress and ditched the smoking.
The real issue is that all these scares have left me totally paranoid. Even Google hasn't helped—searching for info just leads me down a rabbit hole of clickbait headlines like "HEART ATTACKS AND STROKES IN YOUNG ADULTS," etc.
All that junk completely freaked me out, and now I'm obsessively researching everything.
I went for a deep dive with blood work, and my cholesterol is low, my blood sugar is low, and my thyroid function is totally normal.
As for blood pressure, I bought a monitor and check it regularly. It's always staying in the healthy or low range, like 120/70, 117/64, or 134/83.
I also paid for a private EKG, and that came back clear too.
But man, the panic keeps coming back. I'm terrified that between the work stress and my weight, I'm headed for a heart attack—and damn Google, those search results aren't helping.
What really gets to me is reading about Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Seeing news about young athletes dying from it has me totally spiraling...
From what I've read, it's related to arrhythmias or heart thickening. Does anyone know if sudden cardiac arrest can happen to someone with a perfectly healthy heart?
How common is it, and is it strictly genetic? There's zero history of heart disease or strokes on either side of my family, but for some reason, I'm still terrified.
I'm planning to schedule a stress test and a color Doppler ultrasound, but I wanted to see if you guys think that's actually necessary.
Sorry for the novel, and thanks in advance for the help!
If anyone needs help with IT stuff, hit me up in the forums and I'll return the favor!😉))
