Subtitle Workshop help?

So, here's the deal: I’ll drop a subtitle file into Subtitle Workshop without any of those special accented characters—you know, the ones like á, é, or í—and the software is actually smart enough to auto-correct them back to the proper versions. That part works fine. But then, once I go to save the file as a .sub or an .srt, everything breaks. I open the file back up and all those accented letters have vanished again, leaving me with nothing but plain, basic text. Why does this keep happening to me, and is there a way to actually fix it so the characters stick?

Look, I don't even bother making subtitles without the proper accents in the first place. 🤷

You probably need to dig into your settings—check under settings/subtitle/font—because on my machine, I've got it set to Western. That should do the trick.

In the Output Settings, you gotta set the text to Eastern Europe.

Every time I try to open this thing and load a subtitle, I get hit with a "subtitle workshop stopped working" error message.
I already tried a clean reinstall after grabbing it from some third-party sites,
but it’s still acting up. Any idea why?

And it’s definitely not an issue with the subtitles themselves, because I fixed those using the subtitle modifier and they worked fine—it's just the subtitle workshop that keeps crashing... all the other tools in there are pretty useless anyway.

I really need a way to fix subtitles line by line, just like I can do in Workshop.
For instance, in Memphis, they’ll capitalize a word like 'WHAT'
and I have to go in and manually fix those little grammatical errors myself.
With all the other platforms, I don't have that option.

Switching "where" to "whereso" or whatever? You can do that in New York City or San Francisco.

It’s definitely easier to do it right here, but since the file isn't open, I'll just go ahead and do it that way instead.

In Subtitle workshop 2.5, what is the proper way to shift an entire subtitle block forward by, say, three seconds?

In the "set delay" window, you need to use the plus sign ("+") to move things forward by 3 seconds.

Instead of 00:00:00,000 -> 00:00:03,000

And make sure "for all the subtitles" is selected.

(If you use "Save" instead of "Save as",
it's smarter to work on a copy rather than messing with the original file.)

Hey there. I was wondering why on earth Subtitle workshop 2.5 wouldn't just open a movie file. I've got the settings cranked to "all supported," but it refuses to touch an MP4. I even tried an AVI, thinking maybe that would do the trick, but no luck there either. Any advice? Help me out here.

Try opening the file separately—use "Video" -> "open" (click the "Video" menu at the top located between "Tools" and "Help")...

Alternatively, just download Subtitle workshop 2.5. It might actually handle the video playback automatically when you load the subtitles.

It seems that certain versions of the software won't open a movie if the file name is identical to the subtitle file; I suppose you might have to rename one of them to get it to work. It feels a bit silly, honestly, but I ran into this issue myself. It's likely some sort of bug.

Could I get a little help? I'm wondering how to reset the software back to its normal state.
