I am planning a shopping trip over to Canada, and in the past, I’ve successfully filed for tax refunds at the border whenever I returned to the States. However, I usually drive my own car back. This time, I think I’ll be taking a bus instead. Is it actually possible to claim a tax refund when traveling by bus? Has anyone here dealt with this before? I am a bit concerned about whether the drivers will even allow it—since you supposedly have to step off the bus to sign all those papers in a little booth, I’m worried they might deny the request just because of the inconvenience to the other passengers.😵

I've seen plenty of times where passengers just hand over their driver's licenses or passports outside the bus for inspection.

Well, sure, if a police officer actually asks for it. But my real question is whether the bus driver is just going to let people off on their own whim without me being able to report it... this isn't even a police matter, it's a Customs issue.

Of course it doesn't matter

I'm just saying, from what I used to see, everyone would head out, and then they'd go one by one to get their paperwork checked

And if everyone actually lined up together, you could probably settle everything with Customs without having to wait around separately... but again, that’s only if everyone actually went outside
