Temporary tooth fix

I have a question; please move this to a different thread if necessary.

It looks like I’ll need to have a premolar extracted (my dentist flagged it during my last visit). Since I can't afford an implant right now, it's a bit of an issue because it's noticeable when I smile, and frankly, it looks terrible.

I’d prefer to leave it alone for another year or so until I can save up those $3,000—$2333it doesn't hurt yet, but there is an odor issue. I'm wondering if there's a way to cauterize the area (it seems to be overgrown somehow; I'm no expert) to apply some medication or a temporary filling? Or perhaps there's a temporary partial bridge I could use?

I realize my dentist will have the final word, but since my appointment isn't for another ten days, I am checking what the general options might be. Thanks.

That really depends on the condition of your other teeth. You might be able to hold steady for a while using a temporary filling, provided it seals the gaps against the gum line effectively enough to prevent food from getting stuck. If you need an aesthetic solution for social situations, you could always look into a small partial denture to fill the space until you've saved up for a permanent implant or a bridge.
