THE BLING RING

Sofia Coppola presents a true story about teenagers. They become obsessed with their idols. They break into homes to steal luxury jewelry and cash.

Emma Watson and her friends track celebrity possessions through magazines and TV interviews. Then, they pick their targets.

Once the plan succeeds, the teens go shopping or hit glamorous Hollywood clubs.

The character played by Emma Watson is based on Alexis Neiers. She was part of the gang. After her arrest, she had a reality show, though she was arrested again in 2010 for cocaine possession.

Some victims include: Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson, Orlando Bloom, and others.

Fair point, those are mugshots after all. It’s rare for anyone to look remotely normal in those shots. 🤣

Here they are looking casual. Based on this, the movie is clearly going to be one guy surrounded by all these girls.

Just finished watching. Honestly? It didn't really hit the mark for me. It’s fine for a casual watch, but nothing that lingers in your mind once the credits roll. The cinematography is solid, but the character development felt thin. 🤷

There really isn't any character development either. The absolute highlight of the movie is just seeing Emma Watson wrapped around a pole.

Emma Watson's performance as Nicki has received widespread critical acclaim, with some critics citing her as a potential Academy Award nominee.

😲😲😲😲 Out of that whole crew, I actually thought her character was the most mindless. 😕

I liked the lead, and that other character wasn't bad either. But honestly, the movie was a letdown. I expected something much more impactful. You know from the jump they end up in jail, and there isn't a single moment while watching that actually catches you off guard. It just follows one straight line from start to finish—then it's over. 🤷

My rating: 5/10

I have to admit, I’m feeling pretty let down by this one... I really expected a lot more given that Sofia Coppola is at the helm. The subject matter itself is incredibly compelling, especially since it’s based on true events, but watching it felt like an exercise in monotony; I kept getting the sensation that we were just cycling through the same scenes over and over again. 🙂 The acting misses the mark, and frankly, the script is just as weak. All things considered, this film is easily bottom-of-the-barrel for this year's releases. 👎

I honestly can't believe people could just walk into houses like that... It was way too easy. The movie itself? Meh, nothing special, I guess. It might have actually been interesting if it were different, but mostly it’s just a gimmick to see what Paris Hilton's place looks like.

I wasn't particularly impressed, which is surprising since I usually enjoy Sofia Coppola's work.
Most people seem to point to the slow pacing and repetitive nature as the main issues, but for me, the hardest part was the lack of any real payoff and the general sense of emptiness throughout. It’s possible that this was intentional, but if so... she probably should have been more skillful at it. Otherwise, you're left wondering whether the film is actually making a point or if it's just plain boring.

I feel like this movie was just completely aimless. I wouldn't go so far as to say it’s an absolute disaster, but it just wasn't written well enough to be anything other than confusing and dull. It feels like a real missed opportunity for a director who clearly has the talent to do much better.

It just goes to show how messed up kids are nowadays and what kind of society we're living in, especially since they actually get famous for doing that stuff. I guess. 🤷 🤣

Honestly, this was a total miss for me. The whole thing felt hollow—just empty characters and shallow writing. The acting was super stiff, too, and the dialogue sounded totally forced, like nobody actually talks like that in real life. I don't really get why Sofia Coppola chose this subject matter—it’s just not that deep, and there's nothing much to say about it. You could basically summarize the entire plot in two sentences; I don't see why we needed 90 minutes of this. I was never really a huge fan of Sofia Coppola's work, and after this, I'm even less of a fan.

Not for me. It felt just as hollow as those kids and the script itself.

That’s exactly why I used that rating. It’s just not a well-made movie. All I remember is when Marc mentioned they started a fan page for him; he said he’d much rather be recognized for something actually meaningful he accomplished. It just goes to show how obsessed America gets with this kind of nonsense.
