I feel like every time a big club gets linked to a player, the internet goes into a complete meltdown. You have one side claiming he's the second coming of a legend, and the other side acting like he's a total fraud who couldn't hit a barn door with a shovel. It’s exhausting to follow the transfer window lately because it feels more like a popularity contest than an actual evaluation of skill.
I remember back in my early days following the league, we used to just watch the games and decide if someone was good or not. Now, by the time a player actually steps onto the pitch, they've already been "analyzed" to death by a dozen different pundits and podcast hosts. It's hard to tell where the genuine scouting ends and the manufactured hype begins.
Does anyone else find it impossible to stay objective when a "big name" signing is being tossed around by the media, or do you just tune it all out until they actually wear the shirt?
