The sad truth about Reddit

Look, I’m not here to play the victim, but when I experience something firsthand, I’m going to speak up and ask what the hell is actually going on.

I basically got slapped with a month-long ban—stretching all the way until September 21st—simply because I was talking trash about Ukić during a basketball game. The whole thing was more of a chat topic than an actual discussion since it was happening live during the match.

It feels like every other time I hang out in the Basketball sub-forum, someone is jumping down my throat just because I hold a firm opinion. My views don't always align with the crowd, sure, but I NEVER resort to personal attacks. Period. Instead, I get hit with constant personal insults like, "you're an idiot," "get lost, loser," or "you don't know anything about basketball." Thank God I actually know more about the game than 70% of the people on that board, so their insults don't sting, but how much longer is this going to continue?

Are there really no warnings or penalties being handed out to those users? Is there some kind of inner circle or elite clique there that rules are meant to bypass? Does the moderation only apply to everyone else while they let certain people run wild, insulting whoever they want just because they belong to the "in-crowd"?

Here is the latest "compliment" I received—and of course, nobody cares:

Do you honestly think we're on call 24/7 just so someone can hand out a ban within eight minutes? That user was sanctioned the second I spotted the post; I’m sure the rest of the mods would've done the same, there just wasn't anyone online at that exact moment.

No, no—I wasn't suggesting the job is being done poorly; if anything, it's the opposite. 🙂 My point was simply that I was personally insulted in that PDF—as casually as if someone had said "good morning"—while I haven't targeted anyone else. Then, to top it off, I ended up getting a month-long ban because of some comments made about Ukić during a basketball chat thread back when the World Cup was on. That’s all there is to it. I just wanted to point out that this kind of thing happens. Even though basketball is my number one sport, I certainly won't be volunteering my input on that PDF ever again.
